Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Noobalicious. Please bear with me.

Just finished converting my first bike to a fixie. I'm running 170mm Campy cranks and they are too short for my liking. I've looked around for some 180's but it's not too common a size for roadbikes. They have a square shaped bottom bracket mounting setup. Is that a universal size? How about using BMX cranks with the same square mounting setup? Has that been done?

If you're running the correct BB, it'll be ISO for campy cranks. You can get 175mm cranks which is pretty standard. Most people want shorter cranks for ground clearance... not longer.

Thanks for the quick reply. I know there's gonna be a huge trade off with the fixed gear and clearance but trying to get some leverage on the 170's is tough. 175's seem pretty common so I may just go that route. We'll see what I run across.

Jesus, then yeah, 180 sounds like the way to go.

Cook bros made 186mm cranks, but they might be hard to find these days. You can probably still find 180mm MTB cranks, though.

just use 170s or 175s and gear down a little bit... unless you have a track frame with an absurdly high BB, you don't want to pedal 180s or 186s through corners.
