Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - Dinotte taillight owners: how many compliments you get a week?

Hello everyone! I've been commuting for a week now here in Vancouver and I've been using the Dinotte 200L headlights and 140L taillights. As impressive as the 200L already is, the star of the show, or road I mean, is the 140L!

In just one week I've had 2 commuters and 1 car approach me and comment on how visible I am from a distance, day or night, shine or rain (and here in Van it rains a lot). The car literally started following me for a while until we stopped at an intersection, the guy rolled down his windows and said "hey, those are some shiny lights!"

I'm looking forward to reading the compliments you've received about your lights. For those of you who are looking for taillights, look no further because they are really a safety requirement for in-traffic commuting.

Funny you should mention this. I can't say I get weekly comments, but I've had quite a few since I bought a 140L AA last Fall. I never had comments about my other tail lights.

A couple months back I was climbing a hill with a 4 way intersection at the top. A guy was waiting at the stop sign since my commute time is very consistent. He asked if I had a minute for a few questions about my lights. I thought, sure, no big deal. So I walk up onto the sidewalk. There's traffic around and it's well lit. I'm typically leery of stopping for strangers, but anyway he goes on to say, "Wow, that's the brightest bicycle tail light I've ever seen!" We started chatting and I found out he's a 3 season commuter. He gets out his pen and paper and jots down the details. It felt like an autograph session. :D

I have had many comments from co-workers about my light as well. In particular, there's a road that runs along side a twisty, hilly MUP and sometimes I turn off the headlights and ride under the moonlight. With the snow and all people say it's the coolest thing to see that "red blob" floating through the darkness. ;)

No comments yet, but I did my first commute yesterday with my new 200L/140L combination (this is my first bicycle commute in years) and was very pleased at how much distance the passing cars gave me. My commute home was in the daylight so I set both lights on slow flash and feel that it helped also. This is a great set of lights; I run both lights on a single 4-cell battery carried in the seat bag. I have mounted the taillight on the rear rack (I kludged up an adapter for it) and attached the taillight mount to the stem as the headlight mount (I didn't like taking up space on the bars for the headlight.)

I get occasional comments on the taillight, mainly from other cyclists. Living in an urban area, drivers don't really like to stop at night, and comments from peds are mainly something like, "Dude looks like five-oh." But once, in the grocery store parking lot, a mom said she wished she could get her kids lights like that.

I get more comments on the headlight than the taillight, in fact, another tonight on the way home from work.

In an interesting twist, a few weeks back I was riding along and encountered another rider ahead with a really bright headlight. As I pulled even preparing to ask about it, what did I see on her bars? Yup. A 200L-AA, just like the pair on my bars.

Every time I see a post about the Dinotte taillight I want one, but I haven't bought one yet. I have a couple superflash taillights, which are ok. I guess if I spent more time on streets or had to ride in more intense traffic it would be a no brainer, but I feel the superflashes are adequate right now. None the less, I still want one.:( Like tsl I get comments on my headlights, but they are 2,200 lumens of LED goodness so they are hard to miss.

Not to thread-crash here, and not to be just another Fenix fan-boy (although I admit I am now), but I get comments about my awesome "spaceman" lights basically every week on Thu or Friday by the college kids around town here in LA. At first I thought they were just mocking me, but a few of 'em actually were close enough to give me "super cool" props in person. Not bad.

I get too many. I started carrying printed out copies of DiNottelighting.com website with me to hand out.

Hey Gojohnnygo, you should ask Dinotte for a special promoter's discount next time you order one of their lights!

I've got a 140L on my rear rack and a SuperFlash on the back of my helmet. I always ride with both of them in strobe mode. My friends passed me in their car one night and the next time I saw them they said "If anybody hits you, it's because they're trying to hit you."

First of all I love Dinotte products and their customer service being unparalled. Compliments? In the NYC (tri-state) area, the ability to be seen is directly related to the amount of cagers you get cursing at you. The more energetic the response, the better I know the light is :)

It's kind of funny that, when I rode in back of Brainsan this past summer evening, I complained about his 140L. I then realized on the way home that taxis were out to kill me, and it all made sense. The next day I had them overnight me a taillight!

Btw, I spent most of my childhood in Puerto la Cruz, boating around all the islands of Mochima National Park. It's one of my favourite places in the world. When did you go there? Hope you enjoyed it!

Please tell me it's not true; I thought Vancouverites were a happy lot; in fact I know a great deal of Kiwis vacation there.

OT I indeed did, alas it was 10 years ago, but had great times at the Melia and the Doral Beach Villas; enjoy Vancouver and it's great restaurants (CinCin and Blue Water Cafe are my favs)

Hey Stevesurf, don't get me wrong, Vancouverites are really easy-going and cool. However, there's no denying that the dinotte can indeed be annoying (not for me though hehehe!)

I've been trying the pulsed modes and I agree it's more distinctive than the constant red cast behind my bike.

About Puerto la Cruz, I can inform you that the Melia is no longer Melia, they changed owners so now it's called different. Paseo Colon is much nicer now with a broader boulevard and the craftmen and artisans are back showing their pieces, really nice evening promenade.

I guess I have to check out those restaurants around here, yummy!

I use mine on pulsed mode because I actually think it's *too* bright on regular; I do get compliments but from other bikers I get, "That's a REALLY bright tail light you've got there," and they say it in a way that doesn't necessarily mean they're happy about it (I think it's pretty annoying if you're another biker passing a Dinotte running full bore.)
