Most new track bikes are similar to that, and if it performs as it should I think it's fine. Only problem is that it's $1090 for the frame. you can get a Bianchi Pista Concept frame, which is also aluminum/carbon, for $599. Or you can get the complete Cannondale track bike, which also has a very similar frame, for only $1300 or so.

Lugged steel is going the way of the dinosaur though..

You can get the non-Sworks Langster for $450. Looks like the S but with brakes.
And while I plug stuff I sell, Giant is offering a single speed 26" frame for (around) $400. And it does look good, I may even get one.

The only reason I'm riding a tig-welded steel frame right now is that I can't afford a comparable lugged track frame. As for riding a frame built with anything other than steel... not a freakin chance. Steel is real.

Chuck, I was looking further on the web site, and it shows the Langster, and the Langster Pro. The picture for each shows a complete bike, but the Langster price is $440, while the Langster Pro price is $1200. Is the $440 for just the frame or the whole bike? The S-Works one is listed as a frameset, but the other two don't say that..

$440 gets you the whole bike. alex rims, Spec. hubs 32 hole. Comes with a 16t freewheel, 48t chainring 170 arms.
The Pro is a complete bike with carbon fork, Sugino track crank, Dura/Ace hubs and open pro rims 48-16 fixed.
Then there is the S-works, frame, fork, headset

Nah, I think there will always be enough people with good taste to invest in a lugged steel frame. :)

Chuck, one more question about the Langster. If you spin that freewheel off does the hub have provision for a track cog and a lock ring. If so then for $440 it might be quite a deal.

I have to agree that I don't like the look of the "compact geometry," $440 seems like a good price for an entry level bike though. Definately competition for the Bianchi Pista.. I wish they had a more complete spec listing..

I understand that you can put a track cog and lockring on the hub, BUT, I don't know for sure. It would be crazy if you couldn't. I will find out soon enough, we ordred a couple.

$440 is not a bad deal at all, the bianchi and KHS are both more expensive, I actualy like aluminum frames so :) Sometimes I get so jealous of you Rev.Chuck you get to see and play with all the latest bikes. :)

Specialized also is having a single speed 26"- the hard rock.

The Non-Sworks, is a differen't grade aluminum and a noncarbon fork. While the sworks has carbon, and E5 aluminum, basically the sworks road frame with different drop outs.

I'm looking at the Sworks Langster mainly because I use my fixie as a road bike, and I get Employee purchase on it.

I checked with my wife(who pays better attention to the reps) and you can put a track cog on the Langster.
Arsbars, do your squats, there is no place to put a brake on the S-works or Pro Langsters.

I ride my pista as a road bike, it has a front brake, only for group rides so not to freak out people.

Thanks for the advice though.

In that case, get ready to freak some people out.
