Hi, im new to touring and i was looking to buy a new bike, i dont necessarily want a true touring bike, i want something i can tour with and use just riding around. Ive been looking and im interested in the Cannondale Road Warrior 4 http://www.cannondale.com/bikes/08/cusa/model-8HR4.html

I was also looking at the Jamis Coda Sport. http://www.jamisbikes.com/usa/bikes/08_bikes/08codasport.html

I was wondering if anyone has experience with either of the two bikes, and could give me some advice as to what you recommend. Also if there are any other bikes in this price range ($600)that you recomend

I have an '06 Road Warrior 500. My frame is similar to the Road Warrior 1 and has the skinnier wheels and caliper brakes.

The RW4 has wider tires and V-brakes. I believe it also has eyelets for fenders and/or a rack.

The big issue that you'll see with a Road Warrior is that its a flat bar. Your hand positions will be limited. You'll probably want to add bar ends to increase your hand placement positions (I use Cane Creek Ergo Control II and love them!) I do about 20-30 miles when I recreationally ride. I haven't gone more than 50 miles. If I don't move my hands around, they'll get a little numb.

Personally, I dumped the seat stem and went with a fixed seat post (I now ride on a Thompson Elite).

I do love my RW but I am planning on a Six13 this year.

Other flat bar "fitness" bikes I looked at were the Speciallized Sirrus Comp and the Trek 7.5 and 7.6. Of all the bikes I looked at, the Cannondale and Specialized were at the top of my list.

Any reason you don't want a touring bike with drop bars?

Since then, I've changed to a smaller saddle bag, added a Terry fly seat. Dumped the chain stay wrap for a clear one.
