Bicycle Mechanics - Campagnolo 7 speed downtube shifter compatible with Shimano?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Anyone know if the indexing on a Campagnolo 7 speed downtube shifter will be compatible with a Shimano 600 derailleur and 7 speed cassette?
Thanks, Simon

The spacing is different but Sheldon said it should work.

If you swap it to friction, it will work with virtually anything :) Shimano 7 speed spacing is 0.5mm afaik, same as everyone else, so it might work in friction.

Indexing will not work. The 600 derailleur requires a different amount of cable pull than Campy derailleurs. Suntour Accushift shifters will not work either.
It would be easist and cheapest to track down a right Shimano 7-speed indexed downtube shifter. Nashbar had them on sale for about $10 per set. Or your local bike shop should surely have a surplus right-hand shifter in their throw-away bin.
BTW: 7 and 8-speed Dura-Ace shifters will not work either. All other 7-speed Shimano shifters will work though.
