I asked Il Bruto when the next Bagel Ride is, and he suggested Sunday, March 2nd. He does these rides often and I haven't been able to join. But I want to get these back on here this year. This ride is a social ride/recovery ride/kick-back-don't-got-nowhere-to-be-in-a-hurry ride - perfect recovery ride for the SGRT century the day before! This ride is a short and sweet outing, with a bagel/coffee stop mid-ride! And it's perfect for posing too!
This is a NO DROP ride.
Route: Alhambra to Montrose and back
Meet: 8:00am Alhambra Park (500 N. Palm Ave., Alhambra - northwest corner)
Depart: 8:15am
Tempo: Piano
Miles: 22 miles of undulating terrain (in the future the mileage may go up)
Elevation: Varies but nothing major unless you want to climb St. Katherine's
Mid-Ride: Stop for cafe espresso and bagel in Montrose.

Awesome, Tom. :) Did you see Alan yesterday?
No - but I might have looked right at him and not recognized him. George didn't see him either.

That sounds like a great recovery ride after the 100. Tentatively yes.

I rode to the academy and started the ride, stayed in formation to Griffith Park but after 7 miles I peeled off at Riverside Dr. and went on to climb la tuna and grab a bagel in Montrose.
merider1
Bumpeded...
Perfect little recovery ride...:D

You know, throw me down as a maybe. I'm not 100% sure where Alhambra is, but I can Google Map it (true that, double true!) and make the drive. Hopefully I'll have a new bike to show off. :)

If I'm not doing Dominguez Hills I'll probably do this ride.

:D You know, there is always an option on this ride to climb St. Katherine's. Anyone who wants to just heads up to do it and the others head back to Alhambra. Just thought you'd like to know that.

True, but I might be riding around in circles that day.

Why in the world would you do something like that?

You'd have to try it to understand it, I think.

The day after Baker? Ugh. I may be up for a recovery ride, but no way I could race. :p

Well, we don't race to the bagel shop, Vance. They have plenty for all of us. :D

Yes, which is why I may do your bagel ride, and not the race JP is talking about!

Hi ME, what is piano? And how bad is the climb?
merider1

Oh. JP is talking about a race? Ohhhhhhhhhhhh....the round and round in a circle thing. Yeah, you nor John are up for that. Come be lazy and fat and eat a bagel. So much more fun. :D
merider1

Piano is a gentle pace and there really is no major climb on this ride (usually we ride between 14-18mph, but no hammering). No one is dropped and it is strictly social and fun. You are more than welcome to join. All we ask is that you ride safely and follow all traffic laws. :)

Is first timer to group ride welcome? If so, I'm in.

I thought piano was quiet (and forte loud).
So, are you doing a piano ride?

Damn, this is when I'm not around, and when I'm on-call. I love St. Katherine. Maybe next time.

It does sound fun and any ride that involves food is a big plus!! But I think I am going to ride over to the Marathon that day.

Is Chopin going to show up?

I missed this post. Sorry about that!
If you are comfortable riding with others (I realize you say "first timer to group ride," but I'm not sure if that means you've never ridden with anyone and only solo or not) and in traffic, you are more than welcome. The pace is truly relaxed (which doesn't mean 8 mph, but we won't be hammering either) and the people very friendly. Alan is the nicest man and his buddies the same. This isn't a ride where we form a paceline and no one is on anyone's wheel.
The main concern is that riders who show up ride safely, have confidence on a bike and know how to handle riding in traffic.
Please feel free to PM me if you would like more clarification. :)

I had a blast on the Bagel Ride a while back, it's a nice route to bagel goodness :)

First off, it isn't "so called." There is a bagel involved. Therefore, it IS a bagel ride.
You may join if you get your attitude and priorities straight. :p:D
And George is correct, it can take all morning.

awesome!! good to know. im going to be driving from palmdale to join in on this ride, so i wanted to make sure it was going to be worth my drive.
would anyone be so kind to inform a first timer, where exactly the northwest corner would be (im no good with direction)? perhaps a landmark: flowerpot, playground, ninjai dojo, bathrooms... anything to help me not drive around in circles.
by the way, for some reason, i am expecting a prsitine bagel

Nice Video. Were you at the south end of West drive at the beginning of the video, I recognized that yellow truck across the street. I must be standing right next to you.;)
