Texas - Lets do some wind riding

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. 18mph this early afternoon.
Stop by Legacy and Independence (NE corner) in Plano for the PBA distance-builder ride (leaves at 1:45pm today)
We'll go about 40 miles (give or take a few). Avg speed 15-17mph.

Already done my time in the wind with the M&M ride this morning. We went up towards 380 (Little Elm area) so the first half of the ride was a beating, but the entire second half made it all worth it.

UGH- that ride was awful. It was supposed to be a DB ride, and ended up being a ride full of race kit
riders doing 20 most of the ride (including climbs). I ended up in the slow group. Just 3 people.
One guy had 2 you-know-whats requiring 5 tubes to repair. He cut his finger on a piece of glass in his
tire. I got mud all over my shoes due to where we had to stop the first time. The second time we
stopped, I dismounted and got the mud on the saddle. I got mud on my long pants leg too, from the
front tire. I broke a front spoke too. Oh yeah... the wind was brutal.

Isn't that the second rule of you-know-whats - inspect the tire for cuts/glass/thorns, etc?
So did the DB group get mixed in with the A&W group again? Great memories of the OAS Lite/DB combined ride we did one weekend - the first 7 miles were done at about 24mph, so 6 of us went off on our own excursion. We didn't get dropped, we just chose to continue right when the lead group went left :D
Hobart, sorry to hear you had a rough ride w/ the flats and all. I could tell early on it was going to split into two groups. we should have done it that way from the start. I kept the lead group of 10 or so together until the final run down Exchange when the pace picked up as we crested those hills. They were pushing me hard enough that I got to taste my lunch for the second time.
It was nice to meet you and put in a few miles together.

This wind is killing me. I did a 35 mile ride out of Houston and on the first half of the loop I thought my cyclo comp was broken... I was pushing 24+ mph the first 10 miles, and I usually average 18. Then I made my first right turn - and the suck started. Riding back those first 10 miles I averaged 14 mph.

Haahaaha. Yeah, for my psyche it is better to see the average MPH increase throughout the ride rather than decrease. In other words, give me the headwind the first half of the ride.
Last week I was trying to get a ride in before it started to rain. I was riding into the wind on my return trip home when a northern front came through. First a little rain ... then an intense blast of much cooler air and sustained cool winds. Then more light rain. Not sure the wind speed at the front but would have guessed 30+ mph as the sustained winds were 18 or so.

When the wind is like that I often consider never making the return trip. I can just live in a progressively eastern direction.

I rode to work for the first time this year today. 36 miles straight into 20-30mph winds. Hopefully they will stay out of the south and I can coast home in the morning.
The ride home last night was something else. Straight Southwest into the teeth of the gale
Wind like we had had this week makes you really learn to love the drops!
