I am on my third pedal set up in the last 6 months and ready for something new again. I would love to have the RX-1's but don't want to throw down that much and honestly don't really need them for what I ride. The question is are the Soma Hellyer's worth trying? I can't find but one opinion on them and figure if nothing else you guys will no doubt have strong opinions, argue, suggest I ride with brakes, hang me for "not using the search feature" (which I have), tell me to buy a kilo, tell me that deep V's are dumb, send me to Sheldon's sight, flaunt a TT pad, and eventually it will end with the O RLY owl. I think I hit all the stereotypes so have at it.

From what I've heard here, and from guys that work at my lbs. Soma is ****.
The only good products from them are handlebars and frames.
I've actually never seen a discussion about Soma pedals, so this should be good.

You forgot those who correct grammar and spelling.
I think you meant to use "site".

Touche! I knew I'd forgot something. Now the question is did I plant that in the post or was it really an accident?
i run soma toe clips and love them

There are also these "Dixna Track Pedals" I keep seeing on ebay. Seem very similar.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph. I always forget how expensive pedals are.
Back before I sold my soul to SPD, I really liked my Gr-9's with a bit of grip tape on them. They made my feet quite happy.

I've had 2 different SPD's, sr sp-11's, and the MKS touring. I liked the sp-11's but I let my roommate borrow them when his cracked and he's hurting for money so I'm not about to ask for em back.

Grip tape on the flat parts of the pedal?
That's brilliant, its been wet around here and my GR-9s have led to a few slips before I get my feet in the clips.

They are the touring's and are super wide. They are not at all good for cornering, I clip quite frequently and find myself being way slower to corner because of their width. Comfy and grippy in the rain but not the ticket!

i got the soma hellyer pedals about a month ago and i like them a lot. they are the first pedals i ever owned that werent found in a scrap metal pile so i guess anything would have been an upgrade. initial reaction upon opening them was that they looked nice and seemed to be well made. i already had soma toe clips so i guess i have a soma thing goin on. the initial feel was a little wierd, they seemed a little narrow and just felt like there was less under my foot. now im used to them and really like them. easy to get into them after stopping and the fact they are a little narrower is kinda nice when making turns and riding in traffic trying to navigate around cars and buses. so id say they are worth the money and an over all good pedal.

Skateboard grip tape? I'm really interested in this.
That's my exact problem when I'm riding in the rain before I get into the clips.

It's pretty much the same stuff, but I bought a foot of it from the hardware store I worked at and dicked around with a pair of scissors until it fit nicely. 3m makes it and I'm pretty sure most ACE hardwares carry it.

Very interested in the grip idea as well.. Did you do the bottoms? or the flats of the tops? But even at that point bits on the raised parts would be nice if you could get them to stay.

I covered everything between the raised bits. I tried covering the raised parts too, but it caused the tape to peel back.
I'm kind of surprised that I'm the only person that has done this.

sick I'm going to grab a bit of buehler carbimet from work and make it happen on my GR-9s
you can get anti-slip safety tape at most hardware stores, if you don't have skate grip tape lying around.
