Question of the Day (Monday)

How many cycling jerseys do you own?

Includes: Long sleeve, short sleeve and sleeveless jerseys; singlets and cycling-specific tanks.
Does not include: Jackets, vests, baselayers or any other clothing you happen to wear while on a bike.

I think about 7-10, but some never make it into the starting lineup.

Unfortunately, about half of mine were either bought when I started cycling (now too big), or are cheap 80's fake wool (acrylic -- so can only be worn in winter). And there's the ones I just don't like (like last year's KOM colors). So, basically, I'm trying to rationalize buying more. :)

I had a lot more, but I sell the ones I don't wear on eBay. My "regulars" are down to about 7-8.

I've got 10 usable jerseys, but I've got probably 5 or 10 more that are very old and unusable (reads fat).

I guess you can call what I wear jerseys.

People buy jerseys on ebay??? Do people buy any jerseys, or is it because the great and wonderful Happytime once owned it???:D

I hate math...:D

Seriously I'm not even sure how many bikes I own right at this moment...

Do I count the moldy ones in my storage area?? (jerseys I mean...)

I know, I need to get rid of stuff..:o

*and I'm thinking of buying another jersey...

If it has "Assos" or "Castelli" on it, people will buy it. Almost everything I offer to sell on eBay is "like new." Usually stuff I order online, wear it once and discover I don't like it for some reason (usually it's too big). Then it goes into the eBay pile.

I probably have more than 10. My wife sold overstock jerseys for a few years and she'd give me the damaged ones.

I think I have 14. I thought I stock up so I have enough to ride to work (even though I don't do that often). Turns out I already have way too many. Oops. :p

Thanks, Happy, for making me realize this.

None...yet. I just ride in my normal clothes or in general sportswear.

OK, this is killing me so I've got to ask:

So what's this fascination with collecting jerseys? Is there some kind of elitest cyclist cult ritual, fixated on spandex, that I don't know about? Or are we talking about an accumulation of jerseys a result of leftover gear from past charity rides and team sponsorships? I was thinking about picking one up but couldn't justify spending $75+ on something that wouldn't look that flattering on me (at least for now). :D

I voted none since I usually wear soccer/running shirts that evaporate sweat...

This is a whole other topic that I have yet to search yet but imagine there are tons of threads that touch base on the topic. The shaving deal sounds like a big mistake....:)

True...if you consider cyclists worldwide, wearing cycling specific clothing at all puts you into a small minority.

Let alone owning 10 + jerseys.

Face it, most of us here are freakish...no matter how we prefer to think of ourselves.;):D

Around 30 in my closet right now.. If I include all my old racing jerseys, the number is closer to a 100..

Way too many! The funny part is I hate to spend money on jeans, underwear, dress clothes, shoes, etc... but when it come to bike clothes, I plunk down the money. I don't think I've ever paid full price, but even at half price the stuff is expensive.

On my recent trip to SoCal, I brought only my (old) team kit plus a kit from a team I sponsored plus a jersey I got from a friend. I ended up bringing 10 jerseys there. I have about 20-30 other jerseys if you count about 10 signed ones. I have two 36 gallon plastic bins full of cycling gear plus an overstuffed PI gear bag plus a couple grocery bags of cycling clothing.

I think any ex-team rider (i.e. sponsored Cat 1 or Pro) will have way too many jerseys to count. I got a complete kit plus a bunch of misc ones from an ex-pro friend of mine. He's the one that introduced me to using plastic bins.

*Sigh*

Too many.
I have some that I didn't buy on eBay...
Probably 20% I realize don't fit the bike color schemes, or the cool retro jersey look on some of them is not really my style.
Mostly size medium, Euro size 3, or 19" armpit to armpit.
If anybody is interested I'll bring some to the Wednesday meeting. Your choice $10.

about five, I think..I really only like two of them...one is a Pearl Izumi Yin Yang, and the other is my BF NorCal Jersey...I should buy one of those SoCal Jerseys next time they are available.

The problem with being a pack-rat and not knowing how to use ebay, is that you end up with enough cycling clothes to outfit a small country. All counted, I must have around 50 jerseys, and recently I sent a bunch up to the attic: http://marcofanelli.blogspot.com/2008/02/up-to-attic-with-ye-all.html

...not sure why I can't bring myself to toss them or donate them.

2 that are too short (pearl izumi somethings on clearance for 8 bucks)
1 that is too fat (LG something or other club cut from a back east club [Thanks Mom, but when I said small, I meant small, not medium. Yes, the large looked like a dress mom, yes, I am getting even skinnier, no mom, large would never have fit me, yes mom, I eat lots, etc])
1 that is really good width wise, but a tiny bit short (Twin Six Speedy)
1 that is just about right, but I don't know about the fabric (Performance Ultra)

So really, 5, but I tend to wear the performance one a lot more than the others. (I just got the twin six).
