Road Cycling - Laundry Duty

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So these cycling (lycra) shorts say "wash by hand" is that what every does? I've been washing by hand in the sink so far, but it could get old. Can you ruin a pair of shorts in the machine, even if you go light and cold?

I wash mine in the machine, gentle cycle, cold, inside out. I hate it when I buy something, get home and read "hand wash" or "line dry". WTF? Aren't these things supposed to be sporting goods?! :D

Machine wash cold on gentle cycle, hang dry. No problems. Works for jerseys, too.
Oh, hand wash is just baloney. Fine linens and slinky underwear are handwashed- this is BIKE STUFF! Basically, just wash it in the gentle cycle, with cold water, don't use softener, and of course, hang dry. Liquid detergent, i find, is best for this stuff, but don't use cheap, no-name brand detergent. You shouldnt use that for any clothes. Using a decent detergent is easier on your clothes and they last longer.

You like living dangerously, don't you?
Avoid the dryer at all costs.
It's like putting a rubber band in the sun.
Heck, I put mine in the wash on the heavy cycle with my jeans and everything else!!! Mine are usually dry when they come out of the wash so I don't dry them, but they have made it into the dryer a few times by accident.
I throw mine (cheap or expensive brand) in the washer and use cold water and regular detergent.
I dry them in the dryer on low heat.
In the summer I hang them outside so the UV rays can do their thing to the chamois.
No problems yet.

There is truth in that. But the way you tease women, that isn't dangerous, that just.....Well I dunno what it is, but it IS something, and its way worse than danger.

Add me to the list of folks saying, "cold water, gentle cycle, hang dry."

I put mine in the laundry basket - and then by some process of magic they find their way, clean, back into my cupboard.
I don't like to enquire too deeply as to how this process works, in case I upset the mechanism.

I actually intended my post as humor, but I have never had a good sense of humor so I guess from now on I'll have to refrain from trying to make funny comments.

Hi All,
If the laundry problem around here gets any worse I
am thinking of getting married again to solve the problem.
Now if I can find a comely wench that can clean and lube a chain I will have it made.
Total dead man here *S*.....Dudley
Let's see... get married- get a washing machine.... which will it be?
Getting married is probably cheaper.
