A quick intro, starting with what's important:

Bikes:

1976 Motobecane Mirage Mixte, Fixed gear conversion. Mavic Open Pro rims laced to Formula Hubs, old Cook Brother's cranks, Sekai Cinelli Lookalike bars and stem, rebuilt original headset and bb, Mafac "Competition" front brake with Tektro cyclecross lever.

2006 LeMond Reno, all original except tires, tiagra shifters and front derailleur, 105 rear, SRAM cassette, Bontrager (TruVativ) triple crank, tektro brakes, Bontrager SSR wheelset Conti UltraRace. Nothing special, but my first modern road bike. I prefer steel, but figured I'd give it a shot, and I enjoy the bike, but now I'm assembling the parts to build a modern steel frame bike, probably a Soma Speedster with Ultegra group and Open Pros.

I work at a bike shop in Huntsville, Alabama, which help me pay for my obsession, and go to school full time. I don't own a car, and commute to and from the campus everyday, about 8 miles each way, which sadly is most of the riding I get to do with my school and work schedule. I'm planning on touring Europe by bike next summer, and my big project is the bike to do that on, the previously mentioned modern steel bike.

These forums have provided me much info while working on bikes and sourcing parts, and I look forward to contributing.

I'll post some pics as soon as I get around to taking them. I think we have a camera at the shop. Since I posted my intro I added another bike. It's a 1996-ish Bianchi Trofeo, Deddacio Zerotre steel frame and fork with mostly Campy gear. The cranks are centaur, the rest, unlabeled and unknown. The front derailleur is 105. A customer actually GAVE me this bike after I spent some hours helping him pick out a new bike to replace it. A serious rider, it was a scene of putting his pedals on 5 different bikes, adjusting the handlebar tilt and seat height, etc, and sending him out for a ride. He finally left with a good deal on an '07 Trek 2100, a really nice bike for the money, and eventually just gave me his old bike :)

It has instantly become my daily commuter. I thought it would need a chain and cassette, but the symptoms of that went away after I got the huge buildup of grease off those and the derailleur freewheels. Though hardly new, it shifts well, with that classic campy clunk, and the steel frame is perfect for the less than perfect pavement of commuter riding. This is not a bike friendly town, and the safe routes are usually the neglected roads as well. Take your pick. . . potholes or a**holes. My fancy new LeMond just sits there neglected :(

Take your pick. . . potholes or a**holes.

I can see that catching on as a signature somewhere :p .

Don't worry, the Lemond will have it's turn eventually.

Seemed like a good idea, so I set it as mine.
