Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - GT GTB frame sizing

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Sorry for starting another GT GTB but I have searched and I cannot find any thread relating the frame sizing of the GTB to other bikes. I am considering buying a GT GTB off ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEBTOX:IT&item=290206242437&_trksid=p3984.cTODAY.m238.lVI) which is 56cm but the seller states that standover height is 34". I am 5'11" with standover of about 32-33" and ride a 59cm road bike, so I am not sure how this standover is being calculated. Is the GTB like super tall or something?
And another question, what do you think about the quality of the frame? It is pretty beat up from looking at the pictures and there was also a crack in teh right drop out, but it was repaired. Is it worth the $75? I really really want a GTB since the first time I saw one. The GTB is my dream bike so I was pretty stoked when I saw a few pop up on ebay.

First off....it is not going to end at $75; sorry to burst your bubble.
The standover height on any track bike is higher because the BB is a few inches higher from the ground, depending on the frame. Track bikes are made this way to avoid pedal strike since the bike doesn't coast.
A cracked drop on an aluminium frame sounds pretty sketchy to me.
I am a hair over 6'0" and my GTB is 56cm and yeah, it fits me pretty well.
sorry to leave negative comments, but as jet said, it won't be $75. and I won't dare riding damaged (even after repaired) aluminum frame. If it's been your dream bike, I think you should wait a bit longer for a better condition one.
The cracked dropout sounded bad to me as well. But surely after a professsional frame builder has replaced it then its no problems right? So 56cm is what a 6ft tall person should be riding. There is another GT on ebay that is 58cm. that would be too big for me then right?
So you dont think it will end at $75? If it is <$100, do you think its worth it? I am planning to wake up early to see what it ends at and see if I should bid.

It won't be under 100 either... at least I doubt it.
I know that seller IRL.
if one is making money dealing with bicycle frame, he is a professional. again i don't want to be an ass, but i really think you should think twice or maybe three times when you deal with used, damaged bike frame, especially aluminum. When a aluminum snaps, it ain't gonna be pretty. Figure why NJS prohibits aluminum frames. and street use put way more random stress to the frame.
If you really really reeeeaallly think this is the one, i recommend using a sniping service and set a limit, don't go over the top.
haha ok you guys have convinced me
I am not going for this frame.
But I will be scouring the net for GTBs. If anyone knows anyone wanting to sell their frameset for an ok price, please let me know!
Thanks for the good advice guys. i now know what size to look for.

I'm not actually sure how it happened, but he rode that bike forever with the repaired drop. I wouldn't be worried about the repair, as long as it was done professionally it will be just as strong as it was. I am a welder but I can't comment on who did the welding, as I don't know who it was. As long as it was done right it would be perfectly fine.
spacehippo -- did mason ride the bike or is he selling on behalf of someone else? it's funny two people from columbus have gtbs on ebay right now. i just recently bought one, myself. it's headed to the powder coater later today.
that all said -- i am 6'1-2" and ride a 58cm GT track.

Oh crap, that I don't know... I was under the assumption it was his? I'm almost positive I saw him on his last month downtown.
I typically ride a 54cm road frame, my GTB is a 52 with now a 60mm stem and bullhorns. I would (should) have opt'd for the 50, can always use a longer stem.
Oddly the 52 shares the same top tube length as all my other bikes.
Edit: That sucker has seen better days, that's for sure.
ur right guys, it did go over $100
the bidding ends in an hour, and its at $139 right now.

you SHOULD bid on THIS one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300199691318&ssPageName=MERCOSI_VI_ROSI_PR4_PCN_BIX&refitem=290206242437&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&refwidgettype=osi_widget&_trksid=p284.m185&_trkparms=algo%3DSI%26its%3DI%252BIA%26itu%3DIA%252BUCI%26otn%3D4%26ps%3D42
the pulse was much higher quality than the GTB (per GT)
it'll probably get $500, so make sure you want it bad,......it's more bike than I need, thats for sure.
