...a bike computer. But it didn't end there.

The most recent bike computer is a Planet Bike brand one, with too many others before to mention.

The 2nd gadget was & still is a cell phone.

The 3nd & 4th gadgets I added was a 256mb MP3 player & a set of external speakers with out their own power supply. Not very loud, but effective. That was replaced by a gadgets 5 & 6, a 512mb player & a new set of speakers with their own battery power supply, better quality sound & louder.

Gadgets 7 was & still is a 1 gig mp3 player & still the same set of external speakers.

Gadget 8 was & still is a Oregon Scientific video/photo camera. I only use it to take pics. The video feature eats up the batteries & memory card very fast.

Gadget 9 is an additional mp3 player, a 2 gig unit. I carry both the 1 gig & 2 gig for when one loses it's battery power.

Gadget 10 is a Oregon Scientific ATC 2000 video camera. All it shoots is video. I use both it & the first camera.

But wait I'm not done.

Gadget 11 is going to be making it's debut in 2008. It is a Ryobi battery powered shop radio. It has a aux jack that I can connect my mp3 player into with a "Y" for the other external speakers. I have the ability to control the volume from the bike with out having to stop & get off. Testing it in the house I already know I'll get good sound out of it.

Who knows where it will end.

Maybe gadget 12 will be the Garmin GPS device for bicycles.

Till a driver corrupts and the whole unit leaves you FUBAR'ed out in the field. Don't get me wrong. it is nice to have everything all in one -sometimes- but kinda like the burger and fries combo thing not all the time do somethings mix. Well IMHO that is.

To me a cellphone should be just that. A phone. I don't want anything extra in there to screw around with it. A radio+mp3 player I like. They go fine together. Coming from a camera background I prefer my cameras without the mp3 stuff and just a camera first and the video mode bonus second. For the GPS+NOAA+FRS is nice like the RINO's I've used before. Only problem is that (I used the Garmin RINO 110 and owned the RINO 120 model) while it's a good idea to have the FRS/GMRS built into the GPS you can only turn off the radio AFTER the GPS has been turned on. So you use more power on the power up and it takes about 2-3 seconds before you can turn the radio off which often when you're low on battery power just turns the whole GPS unit off right away. I wished they put in a program so you can turn off the radio and it stays in memory the next time you turn the GPS back on. Perhaps they fixed that in the RINO 130 or the new RINO 520/530 models.

I think Bill Cotton has a smexy setup on his bike with the GPS/lights/etc all setup for his distance riding. :)
