I'm going to NYC shortly and am planning to hre a bike for a whole day. Got any suggestions of places I should visit or ride along? Can I take the bike to Statue of Liberty?

Are there any rules I need to adhere to like must wear helmet and use lights, stuff like that?

Adherence to red light rules is optional for pedestrians and cyclists in NY City.

Welcome Mustang1! FYI, there's a Regional subfolder; you may have gotten a better reply there.

One of the nice rides is actually around NYC (there's a great BBQ place at the foot of the GW Bridge called Dino's). Brooklyn's Shore Road Bike Path offers some nice views.

Here's the listing of bicycle laws:

There's is no BBQ joint at the foot of the GW Bridge. Trust me, I live there. You're probably thinking of the Dinosaur BBQ under the Riverside Drive viaduct just north of 125th St. Can't say anything about the food (I'm vegetarian) but there are always tons of idiot drivers pulling-up and out of there, oblivious to passing cyclists (not much choice for us -- on street connector for parts of the West Side Greenway). They must like the food.

OP, you should do some laps of Central Park on your bike. Avoid it in good weather, especially on weekends, though, unless you like chaos. Prospect Park in Brooklyn is also nice. I'd say with high certainty that you won't be able to bring your bike to the Statue of Liberty.

Thanks for the correction - that's it!

Are you going by yourself or with people? If by yourself let me know, if I'm free and it's a nice day it doesn't take much for me to get outside to ride for the day. Depending on your height I might be able to loan you a ride to boot.

Can probably wrangle Steve and a few others for a food and beer run at night ;)
