...is what I feel like. Total TSS for the past 3 days is a tad over 700. I'm irritable, fatigued, and my calves are super sore. Is there anything I can do to speed recovery? How much does some synthetic testosterone cost?

Z1 on the rollers for 30 minutes+stretch for 15 minutes+protein/carbs+hot shower+naptime = success.

Are you using a protein supplement? I started doing whey protein after rides in the middle of last summer and I noticed much less soreness day to day with the extra protein.

you could try that.

Not much.
Especially since to get the endurance guy to upper reaches of normal you don't need much every week.

I mean, I don't know what you're talking about.

It's the blood work, the stuff you have to do during and after your cycle, plus the gear you have to take during to counteract the side effects. I say it ain't worth it unless your doc says you are real low and your sex drive is like a 90 year old man.

Proper training, proper recovery, proper diet, proper sleep. That's what I'm trying. But I've noticed a few changes in my mood, sex drive, and other things that I need to take in consideration and adjust my training and lifestyle to compensate. And I just started really training - at 38 years old.

sleep and eat some food. i'm hypoglycemic so if i get low blood sugar i really feel it..

look at it this way, i haven't hit 700TSS for a week in the last three weeks due to sickness, inability to sleep, life... (=

Eating well (and sometimes a lot - I just listen to my body), stretching, elevating my legs well above my head for like 20-25 minutes, sleep, and a recovery spin and rest seems to do the trick for me.

what is TSS

Training Stress Score. It's a training metric that helps you determine how much damage you've done and how long it'll take to recover.

Have a good meal, some "family time" with your wife/girlfriend, and then get a good night's rest.

Well God bless you. You didn't let your age get in the way.

I say just go ahead and start racing masters. ;)

I like a nice easy 15 or 20 minute spin the night of a hard ride to loosen up the legs a bit.

Try using a basketball if you've got one around. I use one for self massage and stretching. It hurts - but it works.

Stay off your feet as much as you can, drink a LOT of water, eat healthy & balanced, very light spin followed by streching and as many hours of sleep as you can get. Idealy this would be something you do all the time though.

We were training and crushing souls long before anybody had a power meter. We started using those state of the art HRM's back in 1990 or so. Back when my cellphone was about the size of my laptop computer bag (I did have a 'bag phone' for about six months, it was amazingly effective and convenient at the time). Then that cool new 'Seinfeld' show came along with grunge rock and bands like the Broken Pumpkins and Stone Temple Pylons and life was complete.

So I did 20 minutes on the rollers at 50-60% FTP, followed by good stretching, a glass of wine, and some TV. Legs feel much better today.
