After watching the commercials on VS this weekend, when I went to the TOC website today, I saw the link to the Adobe Tour Tracker. I clicked on it and you get a live feed, with announcers, and live video. There is also information above the video feed showing distance covered, to go. current speed, grade, etc.

Their coverage is much improved this year. Video streaming is excellent, commentary decent. The first two years of this were pretty bad. I'm getting no work done at all!

Advantage of being the computer network manager :D

Glad we upgraded our Internet connection to 10 mb fiber!

ahh the wonder of dual monitors. :) Exciting enough to dedicate one window :) Nice to work from home sometimes :) Though I have no doubt that it is far more interesting, in person and live. The greatest question though will the wireless hold out and no drop out. Guess only time will tell.

Heard an interesting tidbit yesterday about the video coverage. Signals from the motorcyles are being sent directly overhead to a fixed wing aircraft that is looping above the peloton. It is then relayed to technical support and distributed to the various entities for broadcast.

yeah yeah :) nice setup with the two monitors though. I about put my computer together, piece by piece not the most beautiful thing with two 17 inch crts on a 64 bit processor with radeon x1300 dual agp card. A whole 512mb of memory fun huh :) Thats alright though I will be there soon :)

Using a wireless mouse also?

that is a remarkable, I am amazing that it is a flash file and that it streams so well.

Coming from a bit of a newbie to the world of flash and its variables.

I thought the coverage was quite good. I was mesmerized by the speed and grade measurements.

Can't wait to see the recap tonight.

yeah I would rate it high also if there was that option. Pretty fluid stream ... though most of the time I was wondering if my wireless would decide to drop out a pivotal moment in the race. Thankfully it only dropped out after the race was over. Certainly did well but with everything there could always be improvements. Still trying to figure if it was stage 3 or stage 2 :)

It was fun to chat with guys from Sweden and Norway while watching the video feed. Bet they were jealous ... all they have is snow. We just have rain.

yeah the diversity was remarkeable. Initially I am planning on going to see it live when they travel through seaside as I live near there. Still have not got it confirmed as stage 1 or stage 2 or stage 3 ? Seems there was some confusion.

Wrong on all counts. It starts at Seaside on Stage 4, which is on Thursday. Tomorrow is the big day, the climb up Mt. Hamilton, then Sierra Road. I'll be out there on Sierra (hopefully we won't get too wet).

yeah just mentioning some of the confusion ... while viewing ... I heard stage 2 how many times and then somewhere I saw stage 3. Appreciate the clarification. Probably could of just looked at the webpage though was wondering when there would be such a response here. :)

I actually post in both NorCal and SoCal. I have some photos posted there (although not professional quality, like some pics I see).

the beauty of amateur photography is that it is more original :) Not a machine but a person who breathes and pounds pedals :) Sometimes you find some great photos that way also.

If the TdF could be broadcast live in the same way.... oh man.... :D

(and the Giro...)
(and the Vuelta, since that's something that's rarely ever seen, unless you get ITV...)
(and the Tour de Dauphine)

knatchwa
02-19-08, 07:44 PM
surprised they did not follow that same suit. Maybe more money can be made broadcasting over basic cable. Who knows, I was only able to watch that over a tv channel. Seems to be a logical continuation, as more and more events are simulcast.

...and I would've like to see the Tour de Langkawi as well (more non-European stage races, with more non-Euro teams pitted up with the Euro teams)... I could go on... oh man, this is addictive.

Kudos to Adobe for setting this up. No surprise this would happen out here though - I mean, the race does ride through Silicon Valley and the main advertiser behind the streaming video is a networking logistics company. And just think: it can only get better! (cue Joey Lawrence: WHOA! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHOCyhdPmyU))

I think this would be awesome if my internet connection at work didn't suck so hardcore. Slowest internet connection ever.

yeah slow internet connection results in sudden loss of insanity and a battle ensues maybe :)

Still sprinling a little bit down here in Santa Clara. Forecast calls for Partly Cloudy to partly sunny by 1 pm. That should be about the time they hit Sierra Rd.

So...

Watching MAvic Wheel Support motorcycle, don't they have a better way to hold the wheels then by hand?

Yeah, wondered about that. So, this passenger has to hold wheels in each hand, and stay on the cycle that is flying down the hills and screaming around the corners. Definately an unsung hero!

Fantastic stage 3! I'.d be curious to know what Hincapie had in mind that prompted the solo break prior to the last climb, particularly a cat 1. Did High Road gain ground in the overall standings?? Awesome final 20 miles.

There is a thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=390021) in Road Cycling with a Spoiler Alert, where all the results are being discussed.

Since most people will not be able to watch it until 8pm tonight, can we give them a break and not ruin the surprise for them?

felt1
02-20-08, 05:22 PM
No because this is the "TOC LIVE!" discussion thread and if they aren't smart enough to stay away from a LIVE discussion thread then that sucks for them. Just saying.

Happytime
02-20-08, 05:27 PM
Sure it may suck, but since this thread went on for three pages without spoilers, why start now? After all, the thread title does not say "Spoiler Alert."

And when would it hurt anyone to be a little considerate? Just saying.

the wonders of malfunctions
It was great for awhile but been having problems since 1p pdt ... or at least on my side. Or that comcast pulling the same stunt I wonder.

Well I saw the main point last I heard that Levi and Gorecki were in front and the peloton catching up moment by moment. Any once else have issues with toc live this afternoon?
