Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi,
I worked at a Sonic in Stephenville, TX, at the age of 13 to earn enough money to buy my first ten-speed. I had my first bicycle wreck when I was 16. I still have scares and carry the gravel with me. I did my first 70 plus miles, one way, when I was 17. I wanted to see a boy and I didn't own a car. ;-) After that, I only rode a single-speed bike short distances of five to 10 miles with a baby seat on the back with kids in it. I did my first RAGBRAI in 1986. It was a nightmare. I bought my bike a couple of weeks before the ride, young and foolish. I've continued to ride RAGBRAI; I've also rode across MO., WI., IL., and a week long ride in IN. I also do self-contained rides. I have a mountain bike, three road bikes, and a recumbent. My mileage goal for this year is 4,000 miles. My bicycle is my best friend.

Hi Brenda, a lot of BF members do RAGBRAI as well--check out the regional forums to see who else you can run into :) .
What kind of road bikes have you got, and how much mileage so far?
Welcome to BF!

Welcome Brenda! Some nice stats on bike miles --and I see you have the bike affliction as well - it just starts with one you know :)

To East Hill,
The road bikes I have are: 1985 Schwinn, 1995 Trek, and I just got a 2008 Le Mond ;-) . I don't have very many miles logged this year, only about 150, the weather is not cooperating.

To Tude,
When I worked at Stone Container the men would tease me about all the trips I took with my bike, about how much time I spent on the bike seat, and sleeping with my bike in my tent. Finally, I told them, "Once you've had a bike seat, nothing can compare." ;-) That stopped the teasing. My husband tried to make me choose, once, he backed down. The bike was there before him. ;-) Affliction?

I love it when after a commute in the rain/snow/bad weather - or even a cruise on the mtb in same weather - to pull into my favorite watering hole - pull the bike inside dripping and dirty - I shake the water off my helmet and proceed to take off all the bad weather clothing and turn to get a drink ---- and the customers (who know me well) kinda shake their heads and ask how the crazy girl is doing tonight - and get the "You DID not just ride your bike here!!". hehe. Yes, yes I did.
And I've slept with my bike in the tent and hotel rooms lots of times :D Hell, it's my ride and it's the reason I'm here enjoying this area - hehe, no way I'm parting with it.
Hmm, perhaps there's some separation anxiety working here <looks over left shoulder to see the roadbike on the trainer about 2 foot away> :D
