Is the trek 2000 wsd a good first road bike? She is 4'11" looking at the 43cm.

Great first bike, good frame, good fork, nice components. But more important, does it fit her, and what does she think?

If the fit is right, I don't see how you can go wrong.

A very nice choice for her first bike. My wife tried both the 2000 and the 2200 and liked the 2200 a little bit better. She said it shifted a bit easier. I think the drivetrain might have been just a little bit better adjusted on the 2200. I doubt she would have noticed any difference if they were both in tune. She is about the same height as your wife but found the 43cm still a little bit too long in the toptube, but she has shorter than average arms for her size. She is a very hard fit on anything.
