Got my racing license so I can attend some of the crits around here. I can't wait to attend some of those races. Exciiiiiting!!
I still need to drop considerable weight, but I'm sure the Tuesday night crits with the South Chicago Wheelmen will help me to drop a few.

Is it spring yet?

I didn't know you needed a license to race. Whats involved in getting one?
Congrats on getting it though.

It's actually pretty easy. Just go to usacycling.org and create an account for yourself.
After that you can add a membership to your account.
It's 60$ for a license and it's good till end of this year.

Most of the crit and road races require a license. You can either get a day license at the event or a full year license from the USA cycling website.

I opted for the full year license as I'm planning to attend the tuesday night races every week.

Good Deal!!:o)
I'm extreemly glad I raced back when I did (late 60s thru early 80s)
"It's (fast) Touring Time" is now my call.
Let us know how you did (that you finish is often enough..trust me)

I re-upped last year. Decided against renewing as a Cat 3 and went to a Cat 5.

There WERE no 5's when I raced, either.

Should make for an interesting season. See you out there!

How come you didn't stick with the cat3 group? Isn't it less dangerous than racing in a cat5 field of beginners?

Probably would be less dangerous, but I figured old age and treachery have a better chance pulling in a result or two in a field of inexperienced newbies. This is almost the same reason I don't see myself riding in the 35+ Masters anytime soon. TOO much old age and treachery AND a good training base to boot.

Cat 3 was 17 years ago and about 80 pounds, ya know. :) Give me a season to train, and we'll see what happens.
