I found this (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2004190008_webbikehitrun19m.html) on the Seattle Times site this evening.

Not much to the story, but it kinda ticks me off. It's not bad enough that they hit the rider hard enough to knock her out -- they didn't even call 911!

Ugh. It will probably be another one of those "I didn't even see her"...

I didn't see her may be the excuse for hitting her. What's the excuse for dragging her off the road and leaving the scene without at least calling 911?

Probably driving drunk, or uninsured. Most likely driving drunk. They'll be found eventually, but no one will be able to measure the blood alcohol...

Well if they are found, leaving the seen of an injury accident is a felony and given the circumstances (ie not calling 911) The sentancing guidelines would probably be towards the upper end. If complete loss of humanity was a crime, they coulda been charged with that too.

After reading the article ("marron mercades") I will bet that the car was a)not paid for and thus b) insured and the crime was commited for no other reason than pure selfishness.... the person couldnt be bothered to call the police didnt want their insurance to go up. That woman could easily have died (and will have a long hard recovery) because some jerk didnt want to take responsibility for his/her actions.

We had one of those here in the fall. Small town life, apparently it's easier to track car parts to a pool of potential owners:

Maybe the maroon benz from today's Times article will turn up at a repair shop in Ellensburg...

Yeah, like the drunk that rear-ended my car at the voting polls last night. He backs his honk'n truck into my parked car and go running after him yelling..."you hit my car, you hit my car"

So what does he do?...pulls forward and backs into it again! By this time I'm beside his truck and he jumps out...drunk as a skunk. No damage to the car --somehow...they always get off scot-free!

...So sorry to hear that she was hit. Did she live?

Did you call the police? Even if no damage was done, drinking while intoxicated is a no-no, and he could have hurt someone down the road....

Granted, drinking while intoxicated will only make you more intoxicated, but I think you meant driving while intoxicated :p.

I don't know the status of the lady that was hit. I haven't seen any more stories about it. She was 66 years old, though! Probably just out for a pleasure ride or a short hop to the store.

Hit by a possible maroon Mercedes Benz, that does narrow it down a little. Let's hope they find the culprit.

unfortunately as a prior cop I know all too well how lousy the stats on solving these cases is. Best you can hope for is that the assclown drives his car into a bridge abutment. Case remanded to higher authority.

Wow I am glad to hear that, because if drinking while intoxicated is a crime I am guilty from time to time.

True enough, but you never know. Last year we had a hit-and run case down here where a pedestrian got killed and they caught the guy a month later when he drove into the local CHP office to deal with a fix-it-ticket. Never underestimate the stupidity of the average criminal.

A&S has a link (http://www.kirotv.com/news/15380229/detail.html) to an article stating that the car has been found. I believe it says that its owners notified the authorities through their lawyers that it was their car. The article says the driver was an 18 year old woman.

wow sounds like they dropped the dime on their own kid (which although hard was the right thing).

Failure to render aid, leaving the scene of an accident....

That's great news! Nice to hear that the parents are going to force the kid to live up to her responsibilities. Now lets see if the courts handle this like they should, like they would if it were a pedestrian that had been hit.

This hit my co-workers hard. The woman hit has been a loyal customer at our shop for a few years now. The fact that some people can be so heartless is sad.
