Mountain Biking - Jr T or Boxxer Race?

I want to upgrade my fork on my BigHit Comp from a DJ2 to a JrT or Boxxer and I was just wandering which you guys (and gals) feel is the better fork?

Junior T definately.

Depends.

Are you going to start racing? If so, the Boxxer is better suited for racing.

If just jumping stuff and Freeriding, the the Jr. T is a better choice.

I got a Junior for mine.

SuperT...the damping in a jrT blows big time at any speed. And it should only be 200$ more cdn (I don't know american)...Try and find an 03 superT on closeout as they are on good closeout deals and the 04 superT is barely better now...(they changed the damping which makes the superT less of a fork)

I have no experience with the JrT, but I do own a Boxxer, and it has been the best race fork I have ever owned! I'd suggest testing them both out.. I know that my fork is like butter, but who knows, maybe the JrT is too... eitherway, I'm sure you can't go wrong!

I agree with A2, if you are a huckster and are not going to race DH go with the JR.T because of the lack of damping compared to the boxxer.

But if you are going to get into racing go with the boxxer, much better damping adjustablilities!

The Jr.T is a solid fork and so is the boxxer.

Also as well the super T as maelstrom stated is a good fork too!

another thought, if you like to tune it specifically to you and like to tinker with a fork go with the Super T or Boxxer.

What was I thinking, get a 888 it's much better than the Boxxer or Jr T.

Thanks for all the advice. I decided to go with a SuperT. They were clearing them out at bikeroom.com, so I decided to pay a little more and get the better fork. Also, I saw that Jensonusa.com also put the superT's on clearance today for a hell of a price. The fork should be here in about a week. I'll let you all know how it rides when I get it.

Jr. T for freeride/jumping

I jsut got a used 02 super T for $310.55 USD shipped. Its a good step up from the Jr. T I hear. Thats the same price range as the boxxer though, so I'd say go super T instead of Jr. T if you want the freeride fork.

BikeTyke did you get the 03 or the 04 SuperT...the 03 is better than the 04 thats why I am asking. If you are dishing out cash for a 04SuperT get the JrT and save 400$ (or whatever the cost) The damping improvement is removed by 50% in the 04 to make room and an excuse for the 888:)

Don't worry. I got the 03 Super T. I think when I get the fork, I'm going to try and install myself. Is it very hard to install DC forks? Any specific tools? Also I read that Marzocchi DC forks are supposed to ship with extra bottle of oil. Is that true?

They are easy to install. Keep in mind use at least one spacer under the top crown and then as many on top that you want. (or underneath if you want to lift the front). The only tool I use is an allen key. As for oil height and spring weight I would check this in relation to your weight the very first thing. Marzocchi's are notoriously undersprung and under oiled. Check the website for recommendations and go by it. I would be surprised if your fork had the proper oil height in it :)..

As for spare oil, my dc is a loaner so I have no idea if it comes with more oil.

NICE, welcome to the super T club. Putting my 02 on was easy, the top crown is hex bolts, as are the 20mm dropouts. Make sure you can get the crown race on fine. I didnt do mine the proper and accepte way I dont think, I just clicked it into place and pushed down, haha. It helps to put a spacer between the headset and the top crown (at least for the 02) because of the way the top crown is machined, it interfered with my headset. And just like any frk, remember to tighten down the whole headtube setup by screwing in the starnut bolt before you tighten the stem. this compresses everything together, which prevents things from sliding around under your stem after a little riding.

UHHGGGG! They lost my fork. Now I have to wait for them to send another one. I have to wait another week! Man I want my fork! :mad:

Yah! Finaly got my fork in the mail today and put her on. DAMN! My bike looks dead sexy! Will post pics and give review a little later.
