How good is this kit? It seems a little over priced. Is there any other suggestions? I am going to convert to a SS MTB and want something that will hold up on the trail. I talked to a guy on the trail who had the kit and got to look at it up close. It looks nice and I realy like the way the tentioner works.

Please check it out and tell me what you think.

That will work just fine, but do you really NEED a new chainring and chian? Maybe you do. Another place to look to get things piece by piece or in a kit is http://www.webcyclery.com/
They have a single speed conversion kit for a bit less. You can do it for around $80 if you just get the singelator, the spacers, the DX cog and the chainringbolts. It's really all you need.

just get the convert, not the entire kit. unless youve got nothing on the bike youre converting thats usable the extra 80 bones is a waste. use your current middle chainring, break up your cassette and use a cog, use your current chain, all you need is some spacers or pvc pipe and some track bolts or a bash guard if you go that route. the converts a good tensioner though. Id spend the extra $ for that over the singleator. the roller soulcraft uses seems to be a better design than the jockey wheel on the surly. Ive seen a new version of the singleator that seems to use an MRP style roller though so maybe that would work better.

I have a bash guard so the outside won't be a problem. What about the inside? What can I get to keep the chain from falling off to the inside?
