I'm hearing that Haedo flatted on a tack left in the road on the run into downtown. And I'm hearing that Farrar abandoned due to food poisoning from dinner at the Sacramento Radison.

My hometown isn't representing well....

Has it ever?

(sorry, but I'm being serious... For some reason, tacks in the road and food poisoning of athletes is nothing new from Sacramento)

(and more than Farrar got sick... a lot of people got sick)

(sick of Sactown, that is)

Wasn't there an incident once with the Sacramento Kings where the visiting team in the playoffs got food poisoning at their hotel?

I think it was Kobe Bryant in 2002

Yep, and Kobe & Co still whooped Sac's ass in that series. It took 15 seconds to completely silence that arena which had a dangerously high decibel level just before tip-off.

I've gotten food poisoning in Sacramento twice in my years stopping over in that town. Riding, I've had better experience with drivers out here in LA than in Sactown.

the flu is going around right now.

sucks about the tack. im surprised a marshal didnt see it though, i did a very detailed sweep of my section of track for any debris.

For true local flavor, it would have been a 98lb soccer mom from Granite Bay sideswiping the peloton with her Escalade while she tries to drink a double half-caff nonfat vanilla latte while answering her Blackberry and yelling at her kids.

Maybe it's just not a place for stopping by.

+1

The worst drivers here in Folsom are definitely the stay at home soccer moms in there freaking massive oversized blinged out escalades, tahoes, yukons speeding to drop off the kids. Its unbelievable. I lived in Los Angeles for 13 years and I swear these women are worse because they are totally oblivious to how they are and have no excuses as to why they drive they way they do. (venting some pent up frustration!)

In regards to food poisoning, its the flu. It has hit tons of people in the sacto area.

Tacks in the road? Well I am sure the person who planted it knew exactly which rider was going to be there to flat:lol:

You are describing what happens when you get frightened suburban drivers in the traffic of a city. Many of those far flung bedroom community drivers won't even come into downtown Sacto and when some do go then they prepare for combat.

Sacramento is particularly bad because of the sprawling low traffic suburbs next to a higher density urban core.

When I was a kid, we referred to Folsom as Sac when we'd come down from the hills to go shopping. It's all a matter of perspective and so many El Dorado Hills soccer moms are terrified of the "big city" traffic. One of my cousins won't drive downtown, another has white knuckles when she does- which is better?

FWIW....the first time got hit by a car on my bike was in Sacto and it wasn't by a soccer mom. It was by a 70-year-old black man in Rosemont. But in the 15 places I've lived in 22 years, the soccer moms there are the worst drivers (and the milfiest).

I definitely agree with you on the milfiest. I grew up in Carmichael and I don't remember Sacto having the hottest girls. I left for college at USC, stayed down in socal for 13 years, then come back to find nothing but milfs all over folsom, el dorado hills and granite bay. I was pleasantly suprised. My trips to the gym, for some weight lifting, tend to be "eye-openers" in the mid to late afternoon!
