Now that Ipod Shuffle is on sale for 50 bucks, I was thinking of getting one. Right now I am hulking my 20gig one in back pocket. For those who have the suffle, how are you attaching it while riding? I think I have seen someone who had it attached to the back of the helmet. Not sure if anything special needs to be done to make it work.
P.S. PLEASE DON'T TURN THIS IN TO SAFETY NANY DEBATE. I AM NOT INTERESTED.

I use this (http://www.dlo.com/Products/AJshuffle2g_Prod.tpl?command=showpage&cart=12035601311225320)
Works great...light never feel it...easy to get to the control....
EDIT: I dont use the little cover for the shuffle..I just clip the shuffle directly in...it goes under my jersey so it doenst show...headphones run up the shoulder and back ....
I just clip it to one of my outer back jersey pockets. It is so light it stays put.

The shuffle is perfect. I clip my shuffle onto the front of my bibs, under my jersey, and run the earbuds up under the jersey also. Standard disclaimer: I only use one earbud, and only out on the mt roads.

Same here...the shuffle's great. Just remember with upgraded high sensitivity heaphones, you'll get the "hiss" at low noise volumes, which you'll prob. never use it for...

My bibs have a little "radio pocket" on them. I put it in there and run the earphone cord up my back so just enough cord pokes out of the neck of the jersey to put the earphones in (Yeah, I run both of 'em. Safety nannies can bite me.). The shuffle is *perfect* for riding. I Generally only use it on long, solo rides though. I like to be able to hear and converse with people on group rides.
If you put it somewhere not easily accessible, don't forget to "lock" the buttons, lest you accidentally turn it off while reaching for a gel, or something, in your jersey pocket.

Just in case you interested, I purchased a mono to stereo adapter at radioshack (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102692&cp=&sr=1&origkw=stereo+to+mono&kw=stereo+to+mono&parentPage=search)for $3.99 that way you can listen to music on one ear and the traffic with your other.

iTunes sucks.
IMO.
You don't want to know the story of it erasing over
300 albums of my music, not to be recovered. Oh, told you anyway...
I use Sansa mp3, 8g, love it.
Small, and has a USER replaceable battery if ever needed.
I use the Nano myself, so I'm not all that familiar with the Shuffle, but I thought it had a built in clip mechanism for attaching it to a colar, lapel, waist ban, etc. If you need accessories, I found the site for Hand Held Items (http://www.handhelditems.com/apple-ipod-shuffle-c-4_1861.html) to be useful.
I just clip it right to my waistband. I tried my backpack but that got messy in a hurry. :)

Yes, I love mine. I put it where the MP cannot see it and run the wires all stealth. Sometimes JB doesn't know and I pretend I am listening to him.

I do the same, that way it is very accessible to control. It sure takes the monotony out of long climbs.

I saw one guy in a SFVBC ride with the shuffle attached to his helmet in one of the vents. I thought that was a neat idea. Dorky. But neat.

I agree -- dorky. :) But creative. Also creative (and probably dorky)... not for biking, but for general use... no wires is great:

I have a nike arm band for my nano (which has better sound than shuffle).
It would be relatively easy to glue a piece of wire to helmet's back where you could clip the shuffle, wait
scratch that.. velcro!

Awesome, thanks for suggestions everyone. Ordered the shuffle yesterday. Can't wait until it arrives, so I don't have to chug my bulky ipod in the back pocket.

What about the Slipstreamz Slip (http://www.slipstreamz.com/content.asp?subID=8)? They keep the earbuds out of the ears while at the same time cutting down the wind noise from the helmet straps.
Haven't tried them yet, but have a pair on order to use with my Blackberry Pearl.

I just keep it in my back pocket and run the wire up under the back of my jersey. Once in a while, I have to fiddle with it, if i want to skip a song.

I'm a compulsive skipper. Even when I've taken the time to carefully pick every song for a particular ride, I end up skip-skip-skipping* to the song I want to hear right that minute, dangit!
*No Joy, that is not an opportunity to photoshop me skipping like a little girl.

Since you do it so often – in public – I doubt that any of these fine folks will need a visual aid.

I use mine all the time, but mostly when I'm climbing/doing repeats on Gibraltar. I use the new shuffle (love the small footprint) and I just put it inside a sandwich bag to keep sweat/moisture out and slip it into my back pocket. Seems to work fine.
I was out today and it was drizzling intermittently and the sandwich bag kept it nice and dry. It makes training SOOO much more pleasurable. - gene r

It's not skipping... it's a spoke dance. And I've never had a loose one.

Ditto. I just made a specific playlist for riding... but turns out I'm still skippy. And it sounded so good when I was sitting at my desk. :(

They do not respond well to sweat. I am on my 5th iPod in the last year. Thankfully they are only $50 now, that will save me some money.
I have a loose ziptie on the top of my helmet and I attach the iPod to that. Lately I have been trying to attach it to my shirt and I went through 2 of them in the last few weeks. Back to the top of the helmet for me.

I killed two nanos in one day on the trainer. One was my wife's, so now she has a nice new nano and I've got one dead on and one feeble one. :(

Hmm thats interesting. I use regular one with hard drive now, and keep it in my back pocket. I had no issue with it getting damaged by sweat. It's weird that the one with no moving parts will have issues.

Your rep is that you prefer things very tight. Just what I heard....

Why not attach it to that sticker on your helmet that says, "Hi, I'm thomson"

My husband called apple when his shuffle died, just short of a year old. They sent him a new one, plus a postage paid envelope to return the broken one.

Sweat gets in the earplug hole that doubles as the USB connection. If the "regular" one does it differently, that may be an advantage.

I should try that. I go to the Apple Store and they walk and talk in that "Apple Snotty Strut" and convince me it is my fault.

Does the feeble one play intermittently? That is what happens to mine before it just won't charge anymore.

I have the older shuffle and found a nice metal case that keeps the sweat out and helps if I drop it..

You know it's dangerous and illegal to ride with..... nm
The 2gb is pretty cool and $10 less than the old 1gb price.
I'd almost rather use a Nano (old version) but shuffle mode
is probably best. Hard to skip songs when you can't reach it
too easily.
For those who have the suffle, how are you attaching it while riding? I think I have seen someone who had it attached to the back of the helmet.
I used to clip it on the underside of my jersey and run the cable up my back, but now I clip it to my left bib strap, and up to my right ear with the cord dangling across my chest. It works pretty well but if you aren't careful where you position it, it can look like you are tweaking yours nips when you hit the controls

Seems they blow out on a regular basis, judging by this thread.
So what about my comment seems "off topic"?

If you want to make your ipod or nano totally waterproof you need to use an otterbox.. They are solid and work great. They add a little bulk to the ipod but keep the sweat out..

Ok so I have been using Ipod Shuffle for couple weeks now, and I love it! It fits my entire riding play list with plenty of room to spare. I clip it to the back of my helmet with wiring bundles up and taped to the back. Very compact setup, and my left pocket is free now.
