Mountain Biking - A question

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi folks! Your friendly neighborhood roadie checking in! I am going to ride the hills again this weekend on my borrowed mountain bike. Now for the question...the bike is a 5 or 6 year old Cannondale Delta V 900 with an air suspension front fork. The front fork has a Schrader-type valve in the top of the stem. How much air pressure should be in the front fork? If it makes a difference, I weigh 194 pounds. Thanks for any help! Since this is a borrowed bike from my favorite LBS, I want to take really good care of it. (Besides that, who knows, in a while, it might be mine anyway!)
Hi Nebell,
Nice to see you in this forum! Urm...not too sure about Canonndales and their forks...but I tend to set up my forks to about medium whatever that is in lbs...
Ride it....see how it feels..adjust it...see how it feels...if ya like it...then away you go!
Urm....works for me!
Have a good ride and enjoy the mountains! :)

Hi nebill,
I don't know about the older forks but If its a HeadShok I imagine it would be comparable to the newer models. The air is for preload adjustment. I have a 2001 model 'Super Fatty' HeadShok. The specs recommend a maximum pressure of 200psi. The tech manual suggests 130psi - 150psi ('soft' - 'firm') for a 190 pound rider. Of course adjust this to your taste. Cannondale's website has downloadable product manuals that may help. They are at www.cannondale.com
