So I find myself with no races this weekend, and not a rest week. That means hill repeats! Oh joy. So if anyone wants to join me this Saturday, Feb 21st, for some masochistic fun on New Port Coast (from PCH side) let me know. It won't be anything killer, just 4x8m z3 (length of the New Port Coast more or less), and 4x8m z2. Plan is to leave around 8ish from Michelson and Rose Drew Lane Irvine. Total planned time to ride is about 3 hours.

We'll be out there, looks like, but not until about 1:00pm. Have fun!

I'd like to, did a set for the first time last week, want to get on there once a week. but tomorrow my morning is cut in half to be some place between 9-10 then home and head for the hill.

But your sets, sorry, don't understand what your doing, could decode them for me. Thanx

Four eight minute intervals in zone 3. Which is pushing somewhat, but not exactly killing yourself.
Four eight minute intervals in zone 2. Which is endurance pace. Can ride/climb for a while.
Basically works like this. Start at the bottom then climb up NPC at certain intensity for 8 minutes. Usually I end up at the top of the hill or near it by that point (thus 8 minutes). Make a U turn, go down rinse and repeat.

Taking an avg over 6 of 23'18" to the top of Vista Ridge myself. 8 minutes at or near the top, that's stunning!

when you say at or near the top, is that like the flat b4 the dip down to vista Ridge?

To the light at the top, right before it starts to flat out. After the light it gets flat and then dips down, so thats where I turn around.

It was nice to run into mtmmn on Vista Ridge yesterday.

We were able to beat the rain, for the most part (it started drizzling pretty hard just as we headed home.

4x Newport Coast (including once on the backside)
3x Ridge Park
1x Vista Ridge

We learned that descending via Pelican Hill Rd breaks up the monotony nicely (but it does take quite a bit longer to get to the coast).

Great to meet you too, 3x NCD to Ridge Park where I met you the first time and up over Spyglass on the way home. Was way under dressed, even holding back on the descents was bleeding body heat. Having you and your friend in front made for one of my best ascents ever, especially up Ridge Park.:D

Hi,

All of you are masochists! :D

My teammate and I went up Newport Coast to Vista Ridge exactly ONE time. :o

There were a bunch of people riding up the hill at around 9:45a. I presume that some of them were remnants of the Food Park ride. Couldn't recognize anyone through all of the sweat on my sunglasses. ;)

I was freezing too, and never quite warmed up. All in all, it was an unpleasant ride.

We're out there many Saturday afternoons and sometimes Sunday mornings. Hope to run into you again.
