What's the fixed gear perspective on leaving the stickers on my new Miche/Open Pro wheelset? Is it too ostentatious? Will the cool kids I occasionally ride with cackle with derision behind my back; or god forbid, on the local fixed.com forum?

My current inclination is to leave them on. I'm somewhat proud that I don't have the standard issue Deep Vs, my justification for that pride being that I objectively examined a myriad of factors, and only decided after extensive research on these boards and in other internet fora.

I humbly offer my white underbelly to the tender mercies of BikeForums.net. What say you all?

Best thing to do is, use a hair dryer and remove the stickers.

Then place them on your head.

Problem solved.

Are you not aware that you are the proud owner of the 2nd most popular rim?

You paid for the rims right? Then why are you advertising for them.

Why offer the least tasty part, when you know everyone here craves bbq assmeat?

what do you think looks better? it's your bike. are you concerned about resale value of the rims for when you get bored of riding fixed because it isnt trendy anymore?

Welcome to the forums! :) How long have you been lurking?

We are like Dr. Phil...without the drawl and common sense talk. But you will be yelled at by men with guts for asking for advice about your life.

This thought had crossed my mind. As a perpetual slave to trends I have an inkling that that was possible. However, I suspect that, in the event that I should find myself on the wrong side of the rapidly moving cool line, I would rock a freewheel instead. Thus the fixed-fixed version of the hubs; I was keeping my bases covered.

Remove them. Anyone that matters will know the rims without the the stickers.

who ****ing cares... most of the 'cool kids' i see around town know very little about the broader world of bikes and aren't even overly skilled at riding fixed. i've been running stickers on one set of velocities, no stickers on another... it's a pointless thing to even think about.

while your riding with your friends, they won't see the label since the wheels will be turning;)

If you think you'll ever sell them, leave the stickers on.
Just go a big tat "Let's Roll."

For some reason, every time I build a wheel set I remove the sticker from one rim leaving one wheel snickered, and the other not. I think it's because although I prefer the look without the stickers, but removing the glue is a pain in the ass, and I always lose interest in the project before getting to the second wheel.

I find that peeling very slowly and a hot water rag removes the residue well

You people do know there are aftermarket products designed specifically for removing adhesive residue right?

Yeah, Mineral spirits work fine too. it's not actually THAT hard, to get it off, I just really can't be bothered

Hey Serendipper, I wandered in to ask a question about laptop sleeves, and I'm not really sure if I'm glad to be back, the signal to noise ratio certainly hasn't gone up any since i've been away. Family's good, but it's ****in winter, so the riding sucks. :) How's you?

Hey QP I've mised you too, but I think I wanna swap the Major T's out for WTB Mountain drops this summer and put a dummy hood on the left. I still like the flare, but the Taylors really do lack versatility.

I use "ride" very loosely. The only reliable weekly ride with this group is a trackstanding and skidz showcase, usu. referred to as a "sesh."

This is an admittedly pointless thread, but no less so than the great majority of threads we have here. I merely intended to poll the other noobs on the thread, not draw in the more experienced posters. I think it is a widely acknowledged fact that a great many of the more recent "conversions" to fixed gear riding know very little about bikes, and display a predeliction towards the "I only care if it works, so banging my lockring on with a screwdriver and mallot should work" school of bike mechanics. That's why I titled the thread "A Question of Style". It is a mere fashion tip that I'm after here.

OPs are solid, respectable rims, but not blingy ones. they're not campy atlantas or araya aeros, after all. lacing open pros to miche hubs gets you a nice reliable wheel, with an old school look, that won't get you many scene points but will treat you well over time. get the CDs if you don't like the look of the regular braking surface for a few bucks more.

I like to put them on my tool box. Send them to me. Be careful. Do not bend.

I mostly agree. If it does something for ya to leave em on or take em off do whichever.
I also agree about the cool kids and cycling knowledge--why is it when I talk to so many
random fixed-gear riders here and there they often don't know/care about other kinds of bikes?
Porteur what? Touring who? I am interested in all kinds of bikes.

i don't know, i think for some people it just takes time and maturity. for me, i had an interest in old road bikes before coming to the world of fixed, and then having that interest revived when a fill prospective deals for old italian steel came up on CL. from there i've been getting into new road bikes too. i've always loved the look and idea of TT/triathlon bikes as well, the stuff you see in TdF and ironman. and after going to the NAHBS i realized that i'd be bored in a world of just track bikes, i like so many different bikes all across the range.

I generally leave the stickers on my rims out of pure laziness, though if I was looking for style I would probably take them off so as to not be distracting.
