My wife and I are heading down to Eugene next weekend, and we'd love to take our bikes with us. Of course, we don't want to leave them in the bike racks on the car at night, so we're looking for bike-friendly hotels, preferably near the river trail.

Any suggestions of hotels that either a) have a safe/secure place to store bikes, or b) are cool with people taking bikes into their rooms?

I do not know of any hotels in Eugene but I can tell you my experiences traveling. I have never had trouble either storing bikes in my room or at better hotels they will sometime store them for you. I find the later the best option in case someone breaks into your room. I have a travel rack that holds 2 bikes and will lock my bikes together and to the rack so if someone does break in they would not want to hassle with the bikes.

I checked with two nice hotels that are on the river, the Valley River Inn and Marriott Residence Inn both allow guests to put bikes in the room, or both have a locked storage room for that purpose, your choice. There are a lot of other hotel/motels along the river trails, a new Holiday Inn Express, and a Best Western, both on Franklin Blvd near the University, may also have no problem with bikes in the room, you could check with them.

Let me know if you'd like other ride suggestions.

Wow! Thanks for the help.

I've noticed Valley River Inn and the Marriott on maps.live.com; there's also a La Quinta in the same general area.

Again, thanks for the info.

No problem, I hope you have fun. Don't forget to ride the Fern Ridge Bike path too, it goes west from the city center and ends in a wetland preserve with great bird watching.

I travel with my bike quite a bit, I never ask about taking my bike in the room, I just do it. I've never had anyone question me, and most places are happy to provide rags for cleaning the bike when I ask (much preferred to using hotel towels). Eugene is very bike friendly, I'd be very surprised if anyone would say anything to you.
