I picked up a compilation of all local bands last night ... 59 bands for 13 bucks, you just can't beat that and there are some AMAZING local artists around here. For anyone in Utah you *have* to pick up the death by salt compilation. I think I've had Debi Graham - Cravings on repeat for the last hour now.

Ok, all 59 aren't amazing ... i'd say about 15 were superb, better than you'll ever here on MTV/corporate radio level ... about 20 more enjoyable although still needed some work and a better producer .. and the rest just weren't my kindof music ... though they still had plenty of talent.

Their 1974 self-titled debut album. 10 tracks. 2 are weak. The other 8 rock. Lots of adolescent sexuality, teen-aged rebellion, and that great cover photo. Man, this takes me back!

Well, I am impressed. I never would have thought there was any fun to be had in the land of Mormons, let alone some good music.

I was a little disappointed myself. It verges on something newagey in a way, like newage mixed with world music. But it does have some phat beats and nice grooves, which is what appeals most to me.
Meanwhile, really enjoying the two tracks I own by Rancid: "Black Lung" and "Bloodclot." "Black Lung" being what a f-ing great anthem!!!

Let's hear it for soundtracks:
Morvern Callar--great stuff by Can and others
Paris, Texas--Ry Cooder at his best
Dead Man--moody powerful stuff by Neil Young
Ghost Dog--thick h/h by the RZA
...and any other soundtrack to a Jim Jarmusch movie. The man has an ear.
Royal Tennenbaums--destined to be as overplayed as Pulp Fiction was a few years ago
And then there is The Lonesome Organist, a walking one-man soundtrack waiting for a movie...

Had to listen to "Just Say Ozzy" 3 times today to get Zakk Wylde's guitar noodling out of my head. (Stop that noodling in there, dammit!) Then while I read some work stuff I'll play some Spacetime Continuum, Vapourspace, and likely some of David T. Chastain's guitar noodling CDs. Perhaps BT or Psykosonik too? Choices, choices, choices...

thank you skitbra...
I have The Beatles - Revolver in the CD player right now. Other favorites include Nickel Creek, Alison Krauss, Fugazi, Nitzer Ebb, Enya, Depeche Mode, Led Zepplin, assorted Country, Bluegrass, Classical, Classic Rock, Big Band, I have a smorgasboard of musical tastes. I would have to say The Beatles is one of my all time favorites. I never get tired of my collection. I grew up on them, learned to play them on the piano by ear, now learning to play them on violin. Another day, another expensive hobby. You think bikes are expensive, try getting a decent violin!
