Buzzcocks -- Singles Going Steady. "Classic" 70s British punk. So good, and you can hear from whence those hollow ripoffs Franz Ferdinand stole their best riffs. Bah. Rock is the dragon that eats its own tail.

well said. Same goes for the Kinks and how FF sounds strkingly familiar to some of the Kinks works.FF is right on track for "Flash in the Pan" status. But their music is still catchy...must be the derivations.

Well, because it's tribal trance - a combination of two generally laughable genres outside the few artists that actually do something good and original.

Crosby, Stills and Nash-Their eponymous first album. This was the first album I ever owned, a present from my uncle and erstwhile aunt when I was a wee lad. I sold off all my vinyl years ago, but had to have this on CD. It's a damn fine album and holds up with age. C, S, and N (along with Neil Young) in their various iterations, have made a lot of good music through the years and some that was pathetically bad. Their first gig was at Woodstock. They are true rock and roll survivors. For all that and all that, their first album was as good as any that came after.
Good stuff for a mellow night.

Don't they release a new album every month? Treehouse Records basically has a reserved spot in the window which is always filled with the latest GBV poster.

This morning I was flashing back to some proto-hair metal with The Sweet: Greatest Hits. I saw these guys in concert a zillion years ago. Hearing "Ballroom Blitz" in a current car commercial is kind of a kick.
Now I'm doing the heartland rock with small-town boy, John Mellencamp: The Best I Could Do. Great title for a greatest hits collection.
So sorry to hear about your loss. My condolences...
No condolences necessary, Randy, I've replaced my favorites with CDs. I'm that rare creature who prefers CDs to vinyl LPs. I think the difference in sound quality is minimal and frankly, I don't miss the surface hiss, crackling, dust pops and scratches that LPs were prone to.
If I had a hermetically sealed room full of $uper $pendy hi-fi equipment to listen on, I might miss my LPs. As it is, I prefer the more durable, and easily reproducible CD.

if you like the allison krauss, you might like gillian welch and damien rice as well, I sure do. Another very telented and not well known artist is paul cererri (sp?). I'm really into indie music too, the pixies, built to spill, and especially modest mouse and ween. Amazing stuff.
