So I have and old Peugeot frame set that just needs wheels. I used to ride it as a fixed conversion, but got a Kilo TT back in the fall (apparently so did everybody else). The main problem with the Peugeot is the crankset. It's the original double-chain ring because it's hard to find parts that will fit those old monsters. Does anybody know of a single speed crank set that would fit one this? I've heard that something off a Nishki might do it.

i'd say a better bet would be to scour ebay for older stronglight road cranksets.

there's a whole load of em on there. and you could probably get the majority of 'em for cheap.

When I built up my Peugeot I used the wheels from my Jamis Sputnik for the project and then put better wheels on the Sputnik.

I dont have advice for the cranks. If its original they are probably old cottered ones, and I dont know much about them. I used a newer french bottom bracket and put some normal square tapered cranks on mine.

Just because it's old doesn't mean they're cottered cranks. This old peugeot had square taper cranks, it was a piece of cake to put something a little nicer on it.

Take the outer ring off and use the inner ring to make the crank a single. Get some shorter bolts from the LBS or Harriscyclery.com (check the Fixie section) to hold the chainring on. You can get larger rings that will fit. That should give you a nice chainline with your ss rear hub.
