Cyclocross/Commuter Build thoughts?

Turns out Brodie isn't going to have a 58cm 2008 Ronin for me, so the plan is to build up a 07 Romax. So I commute 5 days a week on a mostly flat and paved 6.5mile route. The bike will also be used for errands around town, light touring and the occasional triathalon/alleycat. Without vbrake bosses, it can't be used for a CX race (or at least one with people who are sticklers for rules), but I'm ok with that. Yeah, quite the spread of uses, I know. I wasn't going to post this here, but even though this isn't a CX race bike, the expertise and experience of the CX guys in this forum would be much appreciated.

I forgot to mention the bars are going to be Salsa Bell Lap Moto Ace in 46cm. They look like a nice flare and very ergo for my wide shoulders and big mitts.

I chose to go with the SRAM over Shimano for this CX-style build because I thought the solid brake lever vs the pivoting brake/shifter lever of the Shimano would be more solid. Have any of you CX guys run SRAM shifters? My LBS is a big fan of Shimano, but from an engineering perspective I think SRAM is where it's at. Plus the hidden cables look much nicer... :)

There is no rule that says you can't run caliper brakes.

There just ain't no such rule.

Under the UCI there IS a rule against disk brakes. If it applies to you, you'll know because you'll be an elite racer.

Cyclocross is pretty much run whatya brung.

Can't give you any feedback, except that I am very interested to hear how you are faring with the Vittoria Cross EVO XN tires. I am thinking of getting some myself. I have an old Fisher Sphinx "monster cross" which I use for both road and offroad rides. I run Continental Ultra Gatorskin 28mm on the road, and switch to IRC MythosCX Slick 42mm for offroad. But there are some really nice rides around here (Chiang Mai, Thailand) that start on the road but have lengthy dirt road sections, and I am wondering how these tires would handle such mixed rides. The dirt roads are usually dry, btw. Despite heavy rains (we are in the tropics, after all), water seems to drain away incredibly fast here.

Sounds like a really nice build to me. Any reason for SRAM other than it's different?
