Lighting system for e-bikes.

I came across this system, it doesn't require batteries. Anybody have experience wiring a mountian bike light kit to their main batteries? Does it slow you down? Take away distance. It doesn't make sense to me to have one system for the motor and separate batteries for the lights. Thanks in advance
