Touring - Touring in Germany

After much changes of plan (and even a change of touring partner), I'm trying to put together a tour, probably in Germany.
My friend and I went to the Black forest last spring, which was excellent.
We can fly to Stuttgart, Koln, Saltzburg (maybe), Fredrichshaven (maybe), Paderborn, Hannover, and Bremmen.

Does anyone know of any good routes near these destinations.
I'm aware of the Neckar route from Stuttgart (we did part of it last year), and the idea of going North to Heidelburg appeals, and I'm aware of the Konstanz - Konigsee route, though it might be a bit too long for the 7 days we have available (plus we're not sure if the flights are troo difficult).

I'm wondering about Bremmen, as it's cheap, and means we can get to Hamburg or maybe Berlin. But how about the others. Anyoner know of any good cycle routes around those areas?

Bremen is on the Weser River, which has a gorgeous bike path going from the North Sea all the way down to the Fulda River, which will take you towards Frankfurt.

I did that with my wife in August. Beautiful riding! Lots of great sights to see as that route is also known as the "Fairy Tale Route". You will pass through the town the Pied Piper rid of rats. Lots of other famous Brothers Grimm fairy tale town along that route as well.

From Hamburg / Bremen to Berlin is very flat, enjoyable cycling. I followed the Elbe river most of the way. We wild camped easily, and it took 3 days to reach Berlin. At times was a little bit boring, but still worth it.

I second riding along the Weser River, my wife and I passed through there last fall, details on our page below. There are great cycling paths on both sides of this river and I recomend riding along the east bank.

Ah yes, how could I have forgotten... The Elba is often voted Germany's best bike route. I haven't done it yet, but it's on my list.

I too am touring in Germany this year and I'm having trouble finding maps that show the bike routes. I noticed DukeArcher seemed to have one as shown in the photo. I've heard that they exist but can't find them on-line so I can plan my trip.

Any suggestions? I'll be touring in Westphalia.

Thanks for the input, chaps. I like the Brenner - Berlin or Brenner - Frankfurt idea, as Brenner is a pretty cheap destination (£59).
I've been looking at Cologne to Koblenz and then down the Mosell, as I was near Koblenz in the summer and really liked the area.
But I like Berlin as well. I have heard the Elbe is a great rout. we once had plans for Prague to Berlin via Dresden, but couldn;t make the flights work. Still can;t, unfortuately.

DukeArcher. What was your daily milage from Bremmen to Berlin?

Becnal, I'm not sure, yet. I've got to arrange it with my friend. I've got it in my head it will be late April, but nothing is confirmed yet.

If you can get to Salzburg, the Salzkammergut region (lakes area just outside of Salzburg) and the Berchtesgaden area just over the border in Germany are very scenic with lots of bike paths everywhere. Some hostels, lots of pensions, inns and farmhouses with a "Zimmer Frei" sign out front. This whole region is a popular skiing destination in the winter, so there are lots of empty hotel beds in the summer.

Salzburg itself is worth a visit, it's a very pretty town and very bike friendly.

Here's a link to the Germany tourism page. It has an interactive map where you can click on the main cycle routes, of which there are many. If you then click on "further information" at the bottom of the new page, it takes you to another page, where, on the right hand side, there is often a link to a downloadable PDF which gives an overview.

Is www.bikeline.at what you mean? Online maps, or maps to buy?

Our mileage was around 120-140 km a day, a lot more than I usually do. As for my map, it's just a German road map.

Thanks for that Duke, I envisage we'd be doing about 30 - 40 miles a day, which would make it about twice your journey time. Still doable in the seven days we've got.

And make sure to visit Havelburg! It's the town on the Elbe just as it swings south. The Mayor is one crazy, drunk nutcase! He was standing in his birthday suit in the window of his house right in town, and when he saw us (we are obviously tourists, look at what I'm wearing) he put some clothes on and welcomed us to his town. Here I am meeting him outside his house:
