So I got up in the freezing cold this morning and geared up before really checking into what I was doing. I had planned on doing the Humble, TX Lion's Club Ride this morning, despite it being freezing and me not really having any winter gear other than leg warmers. I had been going off of their web page, which said 8:00 AM on Sunday.. However someone had told me it was today. It probably is today, at 7:00 AM instead of 8.. their own website is outdated with last year's information, I just realized. Someone must have just put the old webpage up, thinking the details were the same.
So I missed it. Unless of course, it's tomorrow.
Either way.. now I get to wait until it warms up before going out at least.

I got a call from Chinotex at 7:43am this morning asking if I was still coming to humble to ride, and that was after his Text to me at 7:25am. I thought it was the Lion's ride, but maybe it's a different one.
I have no cold weather gear either... hasn't stopped me yet :D The most I do is put a long sleeve T-shirt under my jersey. Although, I admit, the clipless shoes are MUCH colder than my tennis shoes with clips/straps.

Not sure if either of you made it or not, but you didn't miss much. It was pretty chilly in the morning, but that's no one's fault. I made it up to Humble with my brother in law for this ride. We registered at the event, which was a mistake. I know you're not guaranteed a t-shirt for registering the day of, but these guys had NOT ONE t-shirt for anyone registering the day of. Not even for the kids. Poor planning if you ask me.
I will say though that the rest stops were decent, and one of them was even making eggs to order for people with toast. EGGS PEOPLE - EGGS! How awesome is that? Lunch was lukewarm pasta, salad and cold bread. Yum.
I too was confused as to the dates though. Looking at their website several times I thought it was on Sunday as well. I think they updated the dates on the website to read Saturday just a few days before the ride.
On a more positive note, I will say that the route was labeled very well. Lots of signs marking the way, so that was helpful. However, I think I'll be skipping this one next year. If anyone from from the Lions Club reads any of this, here are some notes/suggestions from me.
1. Warmer/fresher food for lunch.
2. More restrooms at the rest stops.
3. More t-shirts for folks registering the day of. At least for kids if nothing else.
4. Have LBS's sponsors at the rest stops to do minor repairs on bikes if needed. The West U Warm Up did this at every stop they had, and it was AWESOME!
5. Keep the SAG vehicles on the road with the riders. I can count the number of times I saw a SAG vehicle pass me on one hand on the 45 mile route. And when I saw people who needed help at the rest stops, the Lions Club people had absolutely no clue where they were.
All in all, the ride was ok. IMHO, I'd give it a 4 on a scale of 1-10. Maybe next year will be better...

The ride started at 8 AM on Saturday. I had a great time, latched onto the wheels of the guys at the front and rode with them the whole way, without stopping (I avoided pulling like the plague). 21 mph average, FTW!

Yeah, sorry about that early morning call, for some reason I thought y'all were going to be there, although looking back at the Free Agent thread, there is definitely no indication of that. My bad.

Not a problem. Phone was on silent, so once I woke up I saw the red LED, and replied. No disturbing at all. Besides, I wouldn't mind either way.... and if I'm running late, I would've appreciated the call.
Did Nate make it?
