I wanted to solicite opinions on semi slick MTB tires. I know this subject has been hashed and rehashed. I searched previous threads. However I still have some questions...

I ride typically on 15% pavement, 80% hardpack with a little looseness to it ( limestone trail with random small gravel) and 5% marbles (VERY LOOSE marble sized rocks all over!) I presently have Bontrager Connection tires which seem pretty good but I know I could roll a whole lot faster if I had a smoother tire.

I have read good things about the Revolt SS. At mtbreview.com there are over a 100 reviews and it still ends up with a great score. However most suggest that it is horrible on "loose stuff." Does anybody have these? If so what is loose stuff? I can't imagine they are that bad where I ride.

loose stuff refers to anything that is dusty, or gravely(sp?). basically a loose top layer, in which case the Revolts are awful. They are a semi slick slightly knobby on the outsides with an almost smooth center. Great for slightly muddy/tacky situations, and street.

Might be worth trying the Vredestein Spiders, they should cope with that sort of terrain. To be honest, if you're prepared to take it a little slower cornering on the loose stuff, then you should be alright with pretty much any semi-slick.

You won't find a decent semi slick for any type of gravel, they all suck. There's no way. You're better off with a light knobby. I run the Jet S semi-slicks and they're awful in loose stuff, but totally hook up in the hardpack.
