Bicycle Mechanics - Good replacement for CN-7401 (DA 8-sp)?

It's time for a new chain for my Dura-Ace 8-speed drive train. Original chain was a CN-7401, current chain is/was some high-end Sachs 8-speed chain (I worked in a LBS... used the staff discount and just grabbed the most expensive one :D ) . It looks like the 7401 is out of production.

What's a recommended equivalent chain to the CN-7401? I think I can get one more "chain" of use out of the cassette otherwise I'd just make the jump to 9-speed.

I'd recommend something like the SRAM PC68 or the Wipperman 804 chains. BTW, Shimano 9-speed chains should work with 8-speed drivetrains I believe.

Don't bet the farm on that one. The nine speed cluster fits in an 8 speed space. The cogs are narrower and so is the chain. Use and 8 speed chain on an 8 speed cluster, a 9 on a 9 and so on.

I have heard that it IS possible, and the bike will probably shift well on the stand, but I think that in real-world riding, the 9 speed would not be as reliable, in terms of shift smoothness and speed, as well as durability.

Don't use SRAM, good chains. But shimanos are made for shimanos.. etc etc.

I believe I have some 8 spd dura ace at my shop. But that doesn't help you now does it. I'm going to say a Wipperman is your best bet...

I use a Sachs PC80R (also available as SRAM PC80R).

Pick one up on ebay for some $15 and enjoy...
