Good article, I love auto restoration. It's a whole science unto itself you can really loose yourself in it.

I love all forms of transportation (yep, even walking). :)

Cycling is simply the most efficient and least damaging to the environment, although the bike industry itself is probably as bad as many others with industrial pollution, etc..

The article describes a record breaking fuel efficient car from a 1970s contest which is now being restored and offered for sale. The high mpg resulted from weight reduction, high tire pressure, attention to aerodynamics, an evaporative carburetor, and careful test track driving at a constant 30 mph.

Evaporative carburetors have been investigated since the beginning of the auto age. They do give great fuel efficiency under optimum conditions. The problem seems to be that real world operating conditions are nearly always far from optimum for the evaporative carburetor.

That's inspirational. As simple as it is, it seems that you could start a whole new breed of racing around that, similar to drag racing or salt lakes racing. But the whole point would be to go a measured distance with the least fuel. And as a variant, the highest speed with the least fuel. With modern video coverage, it could be exciting.

They would use a lot of coal, though, and would probably be even worse for the environment than what people are driving now.

If people would drive 30 mph everywhere, that would be a good start, even if they were still using gas engines. And it would definitely make riding a bike more fun!
