Introductions - So this biking thing

I'm brand new to biking (I don't really count tooling around on a bike as a kid) and decided to take it up as a way to get to and from work etc. MY fiance and I are trying to be more "green" and biking seems like a win win situation for my health and the environment. Actually, I have a Fuji Thrill rigid mountain bike set up with a trailer :) .

WELCOME!! Car free here for a number of years (course if I didn't live within the city I worked and had to travel into it - it may be different ...) but I am, and I'm cool with it too. Friends, well - first thing they constantly like to ask (and sometimes it's like everytime I see them over the years) is - "do you ... have a license? Was there a problem?". Nope. Had a car that I parked and took off the road as I worked downtown where I can easily (hehe, easily in the snowy NE) ride my bike - or if weather conditions stunk then I took the bus).

Oh and E.H. --- that "trailer" with that dynamic cooler looks like one hell of a party mobile there.

You're right about that...hmmm! It's pretty useful here in the rainy PNW, it's lockable, and I can easily detach the trailer so that it can be taken inside shops :) .

Did you build your trailer? I am looking for a way to transport groceries, etc and am not sure if I want to go with a trailer or something else. Alot of the trailers for pulling children look cheap/unsafe and the other trailers would not be practical for pulling kids...what to do?

No, it was built for me by a gentleman here in the PNW. He seems to have gone out of business, unfortunately.

Check with the folks in the Utility Cycling forum. A lot of them have built similar trailers themselves. I have to say that mine is exceptionally well built.

I'm glad that people have enjoyed the blog my fiance and I started. I ended up purchasing a Dawes Haymaker. I'm not even going to front that I have a clue about bikes but J. says that it has really good parts despite the fact that he hasn't heard of the maker before.

Being a "newbie" I'm going to start with getting a saddle bag to hold an extra tube and a bike pump. For everything else I'm going to have to stick with a military issue backpack since I will be going to and from work in uniform.

If I get addicted (as it seems many do) then I'll look at getting some of the extra bells and whistles. At this point I will just be happy to be able to liberate my bike from the shop where it is getting tuned up. It looks like Thursday will be my first ride but it's supposed to be beautiful out.
