Voigt is looking mighty scruffy... and Horner is just so American.

Ed is access to the athletes this easy. There is no crowd around the athletes or a perception that they were doing a pose in a fixed photo op. Your lens is not Paparazzi standard. You had some great placement and took full advantage of that placement.

As always excellent pics.

In fact these are better than 99% of photos you see in the cycling press. Hell, any press!

Despite the modern glasses and top, the one at the top of LL looks like it's a portrait of a film star taken in the 60's. Just amazing!

You can probably do the same with your dad's old 35mm camera with a good quality zoom lens, although the Canon 1-D isn't too shabby of a camera :)

We're so used to a huge depth of field with our little digital cameras that something with a shallow depth of field and nice Bokeh amazes us when we see it.

Good pics, though.

It's not the quality of the image per se that amazes me, it's what has actually been captured, i.e. the moment. Therein lies the skill...

i'm not sure what the point of that post was...but i am impressed that he did manage to use the word bokeh .

Image quality is damn good Ed... Just even more impressed by what's in the image.

My Dad is one of the top professional advertising photographers in the UK so I am used to seeing good shots day in day out...

I agree with Alex, Great content, you have a great eye.

Absolutely. A good photographer can take better pictures with a crappy camera than I can with a $10,000 top of the line digital camera. It's a tool.

thanx YJ -- my camera is the 1d mark III (last year i used the 5d). for all the action shots and most of the head shots i used the 70-200L f4 IS. some pics -- e.g. headshots of levi and horner -- were taken with 24-70L f2.8.
