Who wants to ride Saturday?!
Let's meet at the California Ave Caltrain station in Palo Alto at 10 am and follow this route:

Shine or Rain.

Wow, tough route! I don't think I'm in shape for that one.

Don't you think we should start earlier in the AM.
Maybe 9 AM, then we'd be done by 6 or so.
Before the dark is fully set in.

I'm out. I'm on-call ... what a damn shame  ... probably should start at 7 am or something like that.

This route mirrors the Sequoia Century ride last year. When I did it, the ol' Garmin said 116 miles and over 10,000 ft of climb. Took me 7:18 of pedal time.
Big ride for this early in the season !
It's a good thing I can't make it on Saturday. (whew!)

I'm in if it starts at 7am, doesn't rain, and we have lunch at least twice. ;)

Wow I think that route is gonna kick my butt!
If you're stopping in Santa Cruz, I'm in for Mountain Charlie, Summit and Skyline. Just give me a place and approximate time.
But 10am seems like a kind of late start for such a long route, so maybe I should join for Alpine, Pescadero, and Hwy 1, since I don't want to ride home in the dark. Top of Page Mill at around 11am?

I might be down for this if it starts earler.
Anyone else??

Somehow I doubt that!

This would be my longest ride ever. But I am thinking about it.
My longest ride to date was the Giro di Peninsula Century last year.
I am thinking of doing the Caņada TT the following week, I hope it wouldn't effect that too much.

Marco, would you be driving to the start?
I think my boyfriend will need my car, and Caltrain doesn't go that early.
Gee, a hundred and twenty miles, eight thousand feet of climbing, and a start time of seven in the morning, a two-hour drive away from my house? I'll have to consult with the Ouija board and the Magic 8-Ball on this one...
:p

I was thinking of riding from San Mateo... Can you say 160 mile day?
If I drove I would need to borrow a rack. I should test fit my girlfriend's rack and see if it works on my car.

test fit my girlfriend's rack...
Haha, I just re-read this and realized it sounded kind of bad ;)
I should test fit my girlfriend's rackThanks, now I'm giggling at work like a weirdo.
For those of us who are mere mortals you may want to check out the RBR ride on March 2nd: RBR Ride on 3/2/08 (http://forums.roadbikereview.com/showpost.php?p=1421702&postcount=9)
The link gives the details of the meeting place and route and stuff.
Here is a map of the bike route but it looks like it may end up about 10 miles longer:

Anyone up for that ride?

Whoops, I had assumed the Caltrain would be running this early. If this isn't the case we'll have to delay the start. It looks like the first weekend train arrives in Palo Alto at 9:02, so I'm afraid this is the earliest I can start.
I did the Marin century this afternoon, and WOW what a gorgeous ride!! I especially liked the fresh pavement and rolling hills of Marshall and Shoreline. I was surprised by how rural the shore up there is; in New England it's mostly developed until you go way up in Maine.
These climbs are certainly going to beat me up. I've never done more than 1000 ft at once, so I'm prepared to take it slow with a few breaks.

..... and you want to do the Sequoia Century route with around 10,000 ft of climb ??!!!
You are either brave, foolish, or young :)

I meant 1,000 ft in one pitch. My favorite ride out east: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Mauricie climbs over 4,000 ft in 35 miles, but it's got nothing on Page Mill.
As for that trifecta, you've got me pinned on all three counts :D

Oh, whew! That makes more sense.
I hereby withdraw the "foolish" characterization :o. You may just be brave and young.

Hey serenegreen, sorry I didn't mean to "sabotage" your ride, just seemed that there was interest in another ride that was a bit shorter/easier than yours.
Feel free to join us if you change your mind on that 10,000 ft! ;)

You also sabotaged the Peninsula ride (and you live there) ;)
For that you should have to do both rides :D

Geez, barely any rides in months, and suddenly there's three in one weekend!

Rain, rain, go away.
Come again some other day.
Bah, there were plenty of opportunities for dry, yet bundle-up rides. :)
If you are still starting around 9am, I'll join at the top of Page Mill. I'll try to be there by 10am.

I fear I may have to pre-pone this ride to tomorrow. I'm worried about getting back to SF in time to pack my bike and catch another train down to the airport. And my hosts here want to do a wine country tour, and Saturday is the only day they can do that.
uspspro, qpliu, sorry guys. Can anyone ride tomorrow? We can start earlier since the Caltrain runs at dawn.

Sorry, I'll be at work.
You should consider the coast ride on Sunday. I think I'll be doing that. It's almost century length.
I'm sure someone can give you a ride. (I would but I won't have any room).
I've got work tomorrow too. Too bad I can't make the Sunday ride either.
I guess Saturday's my chance to climb Jamison for the first time in months.

Yesterday was unbelievable. What a great route.
It was foggy in Palo Alto, but I climbed above the clouds on Page Mill and it was gorgeous. Then it burnt off before noon when I was halfway to Santa Cruz. Those miles down the coast sure went fast. Loved Mt. Charlie. That final climbing on Skyline seemed to go on forever, I didn't know what was going on as I went up down and up some more along the ridge. The one lane rode had me nervous in a couple spots with some oblivious drivers. But then route 9, wow. Then weaving through redwoods, wow. Then the sprint finish down the Foothill expressway just in time to catch the Caltrain, wow.

I brought a disposable camera along Friday, can't wait to get it developed. Stay tuned.
