yesterday went for my usual long ride.It started out ok temps in the low 20s gravel froze enough that studded tires worked great. After 3 hrs some of the gravel turned to muck and I got a little wet feet and hands.Ate and drank usual then around 3hrs 45 minutes I started getting a real sleepy sensation like I could get off bike and take a nap.Struggled to get home and when I got there I felt all weak and out of sorts.Anyone ever experience any thing like this?

Hypothermia, need to dress in layers and get some good rain rated kit.

Yeah, I've felt this way on rides. I think the previous posts pointing out fatigue and hypothermia are worth thinking about. Yet, I've also felt this way on summer rides wherein I was properly hydrated and had plenty of fuel. In those instances, I'm pretty sure that the ride had finally reduced work/family/life related stress enough that my system was finally relaxed enough that it wanted to just shut down and finally sleep. How well did you sleep that night?

I sure hope it was not major or long lasting, but I cannot help but ask- did you use one of those recumbent thingys??? Something about being laid back.

Yep: Low Blood Sugar: Hypoglycemia:
Did you notice any change in your vision?
How long did it take YOU to recover.
Used to take me 8 hours of resting.

Not on a ride, but I feel exactly like that after eating a big refined carbo-load (white pasta or rice). I'll never forget the time several years ago (before I changed my eating habits for the better) when we went out to dinner and ordered a bread appetizer (like pizza but without sauce or cheese, just the dough), and pasta for dinner. I was fine until about 30 minutes later when we were standing in the video store to rent a movie, and I felt as if my legs were going to crumble beneath me. All my energy drained out like someone pulled the plug and I felt extremely sleepy for the rest of the night. For me, a big pile of white pasta is a great sleeping pill.
Any time I hear the phrase "only on my left side" I get nervous. You might want to run this by a doctor.

When I was in the Forces- Many years ago- I did a lot of training in the Arctic for snow and cold. Had the right clothing but part of the training was no food for 24 hours and then a 6 hour exercise- with no food inside us. All of us bonked after a max of 4 hours- so cold + exercise means fuel up at the same time.
But get checked out aswell.
