Planning a summer road ride and trying to get from Trail of the Coeur d’Alene’s where it ends in Mullan to the Hiawatha Trail that heads down to Avery. Is there a route to get from one to the other with a road bike? I know the Hiawatha Trail is not paved but thought I could suffer through that. Maps are hard to read in that area, with the elevations I am not sure there are many options.

I have taken this route many times in the summer on the Mt bike. I would say if the weather is good you should be able to get by with tires that are 28's but anything bigger would be better. The Trail of the CDA,s web site is a great site with a lot of good info of the area. On the Hiawatha trail you will definitly need lights for the tunnels and the weather on the mountain can turn to crap pretty quickly.
