I read somewhere about a film which includes footage of a woman in her 90s reminiscing about the changes she saw as cars came to dominate the streets.

Does that film sound familiar to anybody here?

Sorry, Blue Order, I can't help you. I hope you don't mind if I piggyback on your thread. While the people out there are remembering stuff, does anybody remember this?

It was a short story, written many years ago from the trees' perspective. The premise was that trees have always "loomed up" on people approaching them, then gotten smaller as people went away. Now, however, the trees are having trouble because of cars. They have to "loom" so quickly that it's become very tiring and stressful for them.

Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like to live in 1906. There were so many trains and street cars and the roads were CLEAR of motor traffic. With all the cobblestone, I would have needed a mountain bike but it would have been much better than what we have today.

Actually I think a Retrovelo (http://retrovelo.de/) would be more fun:D (the website is in german but there is an english (http://retrovelo.de/katalog/pic/pdf/katalog_retrovelo_eng.pdf) version of their catalog)

On his blog, Colin Beavan ("No Impact Man") has a picture of NYC's Park Avenue before and after accommodations for cars.

Re Blue Order's original question, can you give us any context about the source that mentioned the documentary footage? A book, a magazine, a blog?
