Introductions - Hi from Los Osos, CA - originally from Los Gatos, CA

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey everyone. I'm a new roadbiker coming over from the MTB world. I haven't been on a bike in a few years but after some prodding from my brother (did you get a bike yet? did you get a bike yet?) I'm going to take the plunge into the roadbike world. And I'd be lying if I said watching the Tour of California had no influence on my decision to get a roadbike. I've always been fascinated with stage races like the Tour de France and the Giro de Italia. The opportunity is here so I guess it's my time to hit the road.
I was mountain biking all over Los Gatos (anyone remember Velomeister?) and the Santa Cruz Mountains when mountain biking was a relatively new concept so I have years of cycling experience behind me. Hopefully some of that will transfer over to the tarmac.

So this is what I've been looking at. I want something that climbs good and is comfortable enough for all day and multi-day rides. I'm a big guy (6'5" tall 230 lbs.) so fit is a major issue too. The LBS has an '07 Specialized Roubaix Comp Triple in carbon on sale and I can probably get a good deal on it. I'm also looking at a Specialized Allez Elite Compact, Cannondale Synapse 6 and the Giant OCR A1. I rode the Roubaix around the block and it feels really comfy and racy, I'm riding the others this week.

So anyone else on the Central Coast say hi. I look forward to the lively discussions and hitting the road.

peace,
Robb

Hi Robb, I grew up on the Los Gatos/San Jose border. I attended Leigh HS, but spent much time at the Los Gatos Library :) .

Visit the Northern California regional forum and say hi over there, too.

Welcome to BF!

Welcome to Bike Forums, Robb!

I was like you. Very much into mtbs but decided to sloooooooooowly move over to "the other side".

I love my road bike, but I had to go custom because I have back issues and cannot lean over too much.

Fit is VERY important or else in the long run, you will be uncomfy and that get very discouraging if you cannot enjoy your ride.

Good luck to you on your search!!

Oh and by the way. I'm from the Bay Area too! :)

Thanks for the welcome.
Yay Bay Area. I kinda miss it but the Central Coast is a really nice place to live and the roads here are just amazing.
I'm hoping to get my bike, whatever it ends up being, this week.
