After some brief coaxing (threatening with yard work) my 14 y/o son joined me for a road ride today. He has a mountain bike and rides it some but he had never ridden a road bike before. He was a little unstable at first but took to it real well. We road about 10 miles at a decent pace, quiet roads, a few hills, a dog sprint, just a nice ride. He really seemed to enjoy it.

It was fun taking my son out. We don't get many chances to do stuff together so little rides like this are a big deal for me. Who knows, he might even decide he likes it. :D

Some of the best riders on the Ride the Rockies are in their mid teens.

Anyway, they showed me a thing or two!!

My two sons are 32 and 30. Too soon they grow up and move out.

I remember when they were babies and I couldnt' wait for them to walk and talk. The next phase was wishing they'd sit down and shut up! But we did a lot of things together, mainly involving participating in sports. I look back on the times I coached both of them in Little League and how much time we spend together in sports related activities, I treasure them.

Just last month, my 32 year old decided to try cycling. He is taking my route, starting with a cheap, hybrid to make sure he will stick with it. Too bad he is on the other coast and we can't ride together.

Dave,

Although my sons are a bit younger, 9 & 11, and I have to slow way down to ride with them, they are some of the most trearued moments we spend together. It's amazing the variety of things we discuss on our rides, and especially our night rides on the trails when no one else is around and we can ride side by side. The older one has taken a real fancy to riding, and say's he wants to be a pro-cyclist when he grows up. Don't know if that will last, but I have a feeling if nothing else, I am instilling them with a healthy attitude that beats TV and Video Games. Good luck with your son, and I sure hope you having a riding partner!!

Im 14 and I love Cycling... I like doing local rides, usually 65 miles (metric century). I did the Sea Gull Century a couple days ago if any of you are familiar with that. But when I am at rides I usually don't see many; if any other kids my age.. I think more kids would like it if they tried. Most don't just start.. Usually brought into it by a fellow cyclist like I was... But yea its great..
