I have class at 10am, which means i'll probably be hammering, I might leave a bit earlier get to 16th+Yonge at around 8:45+. Call me if you don't see me by 10 (# pm'ed).

I have two hours off from 11-1. I can show you that norco bike at that pawn shop on Spadina.

Edit: Picked up the bianchi frame today, had it slung like a rifle while riding it to Union Station. Wasn't bad at all.

It's a 1986-1987 Bianchi Campione with a tange infinity cr-mo tapered double butted tubing frame... whatever the hell that means. (It's steel I think).

That werid suspension seatpost is indeed weird. Can't quite figure out what the BB is though. Looks like a brand new one.

Seatpost is a USE SX Shockpost.

I was thinking of building it up with shimano 105 gruppo.

Edit: Kelly wtf did that messenger guy say just before I turned off?

hey just out of interest where is this pawn shop on spadina? do they have many bikes, or was it just something that you happened to find one day?

I'm always trying to find used road frames that actually fit my inseam....

I think they are talking about "Uncle Jacob" this is along Spadina north of College North east of Spadina

Rofl. I encountered the same guy that honked at you before the turn off on my way to campus. I blocked him for a good km. He seemed to be quite the dumbass.

Its actually a little south of college, on the east side of spadina. There are usually a number of bikes chained up outside it so its hard to miss. Uncle Jacob is a grumpy eastern european fellow.

I'll have to check out Uncle Jacob, thanks.

I'd bet that most, if not all of those bikes at Uncle Jacob's are stolen, or built from stolen parts. Rather, check out the nearby 'Bikes on Wheels' south of College and Augusta. They don't have many road bikes, but their prices are fair and the bikes are in good working order.

orguasch
11-24-04, 07:30 PM
you said it right, maybe 85% is stolen, any also about that Bike on Wheels, they use to be a Bike cooperative until it was sold a few years back..

Shiznaz
11-24-04, 07:34 PM
Bikes on wheels is good (Curbside Cycles is its sister store on Bloor west of Spadina, which is a little more high class and fancy), and while you are there you can check out Parts Unknown which is a used bike parts store in a tiny garage with no windows at the end of an unpaved alleyway in Kensington. Thats where Operator got his new frame.

The used selection is not that great at Bikes on Wheels unless you are looking for cruisers or mtbs.

I just noticed that the fork binds when rotated.... blasted. Any thoughts on campy mirage gruppo vs shimano 105 guys?

Wheels < $200 ?

yeah %90 of all of Igors on Queen bikes are stolen too.

I'll have to check out that Parts Unkown place (I wonder if that's the place that I've often heard called "bicycle bob's"??)

how much did you pay for the frame? think it's worth putting $200 wheels on it?

Sounds like you need a new headset. I have a spare new 1" threadless headset if you need it. Its nothing special but it should do the job. I bought it thinking I could convert to threadless but my fork ended up being too short for that route so I needed to get it threaded and I needed to buy another (threaded) headset.

You'll need an LBS to take out or install a headset.

About the gruppo, you can't go wrong with 105, but you could also keep her an all Italian stallion; I don't think you can really go wrong with campy either. I don't know all that much about brakes and shifters and derailleurs and all that though.

If I were you I would get downtube shift levers because they are totally sweet, but if you are shift crazy I guess sti would be best.

Basically anything cheap will do, I paid $100 CDN for the frame.

Rob,
I have a wheelset which I was using a Mavic CXP 30, I am disposing of it for $450.00, I can sell to you for $300.00, including the tires, except the cogs, this is shimano ready cogsets, it can accomodate 8, 9 and ten cogs

My fork is threaded (at least I hope it is) since the headset is threaded. I was thinking about if it would be worth it to convert everything to threadless.

Shiznaz
11-25-04, 08:34 AM
Its hard to convert threaded forks to threadless because there is not enough exposed steer tube to attach spacers and a stem to. I would suggest you just keep it threaded unless you want to buy a new fork as well! You should be able to pick up a threaded headset for around 15 bucks. If you want to use threadless stems there is an adapter you can use
http://parts.spicercycles.com/site/intro.cfm?PageID=37&Category=1528
It acts like a quill stem that you can just plop a threadless stem on, although personally I think threaded quill stems are way cooler. It might be worth it looking for a dumpstered bike or a dirt cheap bike you can grab some parts off of, or just canibalize your blue bike. Any parts you are not happy with you can replace at your liesure or when you can put up the cash.

Rob,
I have threaded fork from my Old Bike too, it came from my 52 C-to-c Bike frame, its a Inch steerer tube and it has a headset too, if that is the size of your Bianchi, it will fit, I can give it to you if you buy my wheelset, email me at my email addy. oguasch2846@sympatico.ca (will erase this post in two days)

Beats me. This is the ride description

TOURLEADER'S CHOICE - We'll ride to keep warm and then stop at a likely bakery or coffee shop to refuel--strictly fitness (and a little socializing) on asphalt, no foliage tours or gentle summer breezes. These rides will continue until Christmas or until riding conditions are no longer safe. Meet at Finch Subway Park and Ride (NW corner Yonge and Hendon) for a 10:00 a.m. departure.
Classification: Tourist
Distances: 60 & 80 kms

If it say Tourist class, this ride of the TBN is a fast one, like 30 K to 40 K an hour, although I am not sure, I think for you to ride TBN organized ride you have to pay $50.00 a year, if not you have to pay $5.00 for the days ride.

Don't the TBN rides start at Church and Wellesley?

30-40 kph, yeah right.

I don't live in Canada... but I will say this about Canada.

I've been there only 2 times, but I immediately fell in love with it! Everything just makes sense over there...the metric system, the size of food servings, the weather, the landscape.. Someday I will move to either Vancouver or Toronto and commute to work.
I grew up in Toronto and now live elsewhere in Ontario. All the things you listed about Canada are true, but the traffic in Toronto is like few others places in North America. BRUTAL!!!!

I said the Tourist ride, they do ride that fast, now maybe you have rode with them and the group is Easy Roller, that is something else, that group ride like 15 to 20 K. and hour and more frequent stops, I don't know if they start at Church and Wellesley...

Nah I didn't go, I woke up sometime before 10 and said aw screw it, woke up again at 10:30 and that was that.

And oscar is right, the 8:30, tourist/advanced tourist groups HAMMER, I mean HAMMER. My very first ride with the TBN, I made the mistake of

1) Riding my mtb
2) Thinking tourist speed did NOT include rest breaks.

Got dropped about 5km into the ride but was able to link up with someone else who was going a bit slower. They were doing 32+ when I got dropped.

I can probably handle it now that i'm on a road bike though (yeah right). Most if not all the TBN rides have officially ended for the season. Some rides still have unofficial get-togethers. Check the site. I was thinking of doing the unofficial Friday night one.

Edit: The easy rollers do like 20kph.

kingkelly
11-29-04, 08:12 PM
if its unofficial, that mean i dont have to pay 5 bux? is the friday night one slow enough for my MTB? hmm i would need a light

Yeah it's unofficial (no non-member charge). Friday night ride should be fine for you. I have a 1.2w Halogen light that I can give you for friday. You'll have to supply the C batteries though (which is why I don't use it anymore).

Or you can buy a cheap headlight from MEC $15'ish. And a rear blinkie which is like.. 4 bucks.

Just got back, rode with two other guys lol (guy and a gal)... Guess the enthusiasm waned since it was rainy this morning. Rode out to the spit and back. Thank heavens the guy had a 10w BLT light.

I fell coming back after I miscalculated a u turn space and sideswiped a curb. That sucked.
