We could do the donut run I guess, I haven't tried it but it seems like it would be fun. If any of us get pooped out I suppose we could just all drop together so we don't get lonely.

Well I plan to hold on as long as I can, I've been trying to get out to this pretty well all year, and the weather looks pretty good. (no rain!)

Okay I'm going to try to get up nice and early so I can get up to laird and eglinton at a liesurely pace. I'll be bringing a pump, tools, patch kit, spare tube, band-aids, and delicious treats... do you think I need to bring my lock as well? its pretty heavy.

I'll bring my lock, but we're not really intending to leave our bikes for any extended period of time -> huge lock !necessary.

I'm most likely not going to last the entire ride, we'll see how it goes tomorrow. You should go buy that norco bike kelly.

did any of you guys go on this ride?
I was up at 8:30 and rode up to Eglinton and Laird around 8:50 - 9. I stopped and looked at some of the bikes (looking for a silver fixed gear Spicer) but I didn't see it. Considering I hadn't eaten any sort of breakfast, was dressed in military cut-off cargo pants and also riding my fixed gear; I thought maybe this type of ride would be for another day......
just fyi, maybe you know it already: The Donut Ride is a SPANDEX RIDE. If you do not have spandex, you are not allowed. But seriously... how did it go?

Well that was fun. Everything was okay up until we just got to keele. Some sort of sprint or something. Got dropped and never made contact with the peloton again. Ended up continuing up Keele and drafting some lady all the way up to Teston road when we finally gave up. I think it was like... 33k into the ride?
Wasted weasel we got there around 8:50 ish to 9. Bikes parked next to the garbage can.
That ride ... is fscking nuts. Main goal, stay with the peloton, yeah right. The group... was large, very large. Like 50-90 people. Hard to tell. But there were lots.

keele? I didn't know they headed west, I thought they went straight north?
can't find any posts relating to it, but is the donut run the same route each week?

Its the same route every weekend, west on eglinton, north on Bayview, after Sheppard, left on a side street, I don't know the name of the street, then, it goes north on Willowdale street, when it reach steel, right on Steeles Ave. turn right on Yonge then left again on the seconds street after the car dealer store, then a number of right and left turns, I don't know the name of the street, because of so many left and right turn I don't know the name of the sytreet that we have travelled, but its the same route everyweekend...

Basically what happens is we wind up north like Oscar said and then zig zag a lot just pass of steeles all while heading west towards keele. Then it goes north... from there on, no idea how it goes.

then it goes north up to king road (right) then goes east all the way to Yonge street, (shorter Route)
to Grandma's Bake shop, the longer route the group passed King road still go north, have a break at Grandmas, then head to Willowdale lake up North to Bayview ...............

I had fun too, we thought we were doing pretty well keeping up with the group, but when they turned on the gas we didn't stand a chance. Still, I ended up doing 100k over the day and got some damn good exercise. I felt kind of bad for the girl we were drafting but there was no way I could have teken lead at that point!

God biking today sucked... bad.
oh come on.... that was a riot. Road fixed today, 8:30am fish-tailing through every intersection, %20 visability and blowing snow.
My girlfriend left the house half an hour before I did (I was even still in bed), said she saw me blow by the bus she was sitting on heading to Broadview station.
1 inch of snow and this city is crippled, sad.

I had a blast riding around today. I was going through queen's park for a while testing out my winter fixie in the snow for the first time. I was doing full out 2 wheels skids across the fresh snow and skids where I would actually be able to pedal backwards for reverse traction and all kinds of fun stuff. On the road I had to be a little careful because my disc brake locks up the front wheel into a skid if I'm not very light handed.
It makes riding much more interesting to say the least.

I had no choice but to sit on the bus. I left my road bike downtown when I went home late on transit last night. Thought about taking my mtb then realized that it was a 30km hike to school which I really didn't want to do.
The 1.25" tires on my road bike doesn't handle ice very well.
Oh yeah, it took the bus 3 hours to go the 15.7k from my house to finch station, my ass started hurting. At least no one farted.
you guys are a joke. clog up the forum with your nonsense and get dropped on a ride before it starts. its just a tempo ride until 7 and keele, that was not a sprint it was just ramping up to speed for the rest of the ride to the bake shop. you jokers did not even get to the hills.

No one is forcing you to read it. As for your elitist attitude, you can shove it. Arrogant pricks like you get their bikes trashed by my $25 steel road bike. You better hope you never meet me on that ride.
From reading your other posts it seemed that you've been molested one too many times as a kid. It sounds like you didn't even read any of the posts.
boy am i scared. i'll be the guy in front of you I guess since the donut run is basically just a fun group ride. but i guess you wouldn't know that, being dropped and all and then drafting off that girl.

pinerider,
as you have suggested, I visited the Canadian cyclist forum, I can't find anything that will enhance my cycling ability, the things that I have read in that forum are all trash talks, I was ready to sign up, but the people who are posting there, I think doesn't have anything better to do, but talk trash. I like the classified ads, in fact I have posted some time ago about a wheelset that I am trying to sell, everything else in the site except for the forums are good.

Oscar, my reply was directed to ewitz. The tone of his posts is much more suited to what you'd see on the Canadian Cyclist forum where the main purpose seems to be for posters to cut each other up, not like the friendly people you meet here!

pinerider,
no problem, I thought, that it was a good site, after a hard day at work I need to relaxed and not get agitated I don't need another smart ass telling me off. Anywayz, pinerider I hope you do have a nice day.
So How is your cycling days, for me it looks like my road bike riding has officially ended. now its quality time on my rollers.
thanks

No rollers for me, I'm planning on commuting all winter. I've got a VeloSport touring bike for my main ride, and an old Norco MTB with rack and fenders for the messy stuff and studded tires for the icey stuff. I'm keeping the road bike handy, plan to get out on the nice days. Managed to get a lot of roadrides in last year between Christmas and New Year's, doubt if the weather will be as nice this year!

Well said, my last good road ride about 3 weeks ago was a triple escarpment climb - up 3 different access roads and down 3 different access roads. Some of the fan paint on the road from the World Championships is still there at the top of the Claremont Access, but it's getting faded now.
Commuting is good in Hamilton, most of the drivers are reasonable and the bus drivers usually go out of their way to give you some room when they can. Commuting seems to be getting more popular, too, I saw 3 brave souls out in the rain/wet snow this morning when I drove my wife to work.

-23 with windchill, I know what you mean about uncoiling your bike lock cable. I was trying to pick up last minute gifts on Sunday, when I brought my bike back into my apartment my gloves stuck to the steel frame from the sudden build up of frost due to the indoor tempurature change. unreal....

go to velotique on Queen street East/corner Coswell/ or go to European bound right infront of MEC, or try visiting a fishing Gear store, I am sure they will have this Bug Repellant. Or maybe you can go to MEC on Line store, they may have the bug Repellant online
