Hadn't really gone for a ride in a long time, I went for a ~20k short one around town yesterday. I felt so out of shape. That and I gained like 3 pounds over christmas :|
Still too much effort to bike 30k to school though... for now.

I've been biking around quite alot recently, but I haven't done any real long rides to speak of. My disc brake setup had a problem recently so now I'm running my winter fixed gear bike brakeless and I've been very happy with it like that so far. I'd be up for a ride if anyone else is!

Hey there,
Do you guys do regular road rides in the summer? I'm building up a cross frame, and I'd like to put some pavement miles on it this year.

We only managed one...? or was it two rides before winter came on in. But yeah I think everyone would be up to get together for a ride.

Hey I noticed theres another Toronto Bike Show in March. Think it's a good place to pick up some parts shiznaz?

yeah, the spring show is way bigger than the fall show, and it goes for 3 days. Also don't miss the St. Valentines Day Massacre ice race this year at Dufferin Grove Park at around 5-6pm... looks like it will be a blast!

I'll be looking for some clipless shoes and a pair of eggbeaters, and maybe some aerobars if they are cheap (want to do some TTs in the future). If I see some spinergy rev-x wheels I just might have to get them as well, despite the difficulties getting them to work fixed gear.
If I can find a bmx for cheap I might be able to do a ridiculous hack like this too:

Did they have any bullhorns period? I was too busy not looking for handlebars.
Shiznaz
02-17-05, 11:28 AM
all their bullhorn bars either have grooves for cable routing or are drilled for cable routining. Since I'm not running brake, I don't want any of that, just a nice smooth strong steel set. I figure I'll have the best luck finding them at the spring bike show, but I may check Parts Unknown to see if they have some sitting there.
I'm looking for something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=27951&item=7135035135 (although these are aluminum)

Edit: You going to go completely brakeless?

Hehe yeah i was wondering where the brakes were too.
But if youve got bullhorns like that, cars will most likely get out of your way. You need like some spikes at the end of them horns!

Holy crap, it's past $200 USD now... !
P.S bullhorns or drop bars?
Shiznaz
02-22-05, 06:32 PM
whatever you are most comfortable with. drops are the most versatile and give the most hand positions, but bullhorns look nice and give a good position as well. I'm bidding on a set of sweet mavic hullhorns for my brakeless winter bike, but once the summer comes they will probably go onto my nicer bike.
If all goes according to plan, I will have swapped off my drop bars, brake levers,m lines and calipers, but I'm not 100% sure yet if I want to ride brakeless on my spicer. However, if I do I would be more than happy to sell you them for a cheap price. the bars are ritchey ergonomic with cable routing, pretty wide wrapped in deda light grey cork tape with a little electrical tape at the ends to cover bike fall over tears. The brakes are suntour GPX in a dark metallic blue grey with light grey hoods. One of the levers has a scratch on the front but they are both pretty new. The caplipers are nice and strong and the spring is internally housed so it won't rust up ever. theres pictures of them on my bike.
Do you have a stem that has a removable bolt on front plate? Because otehrwise you would have to remove the levers and tape before you put it on which would be a waste of tape kind of.

Yeah hey that'd be cool shiznaz. I got a quill stem for $6 at urbane cyclist, doesn't have a removeable bolt on front plate though :| I've never actually ridden bullhorns before, thought they looked pretty uber on most of the fixed gears i've seen in that pics thread. I forgot how much they were selling for at urbane, but I thought I could always buy bullhorns later.
The only thing that might be a problem is the reach of your brakes. Fitting a 700cc rim to a 27" created a need for long reach brakes. I just looked at my stem and I think it says 26.0mm clamp diameter (tag just says 120/26.
Let me know when you're going to sell em, can't wait to go riding..!
Shiznaz
02-22-05, 07:54 PM
hmmm... I'm not 100% sure if its 25.4mm or 26mm clamp size handlebars. they are 44cm center to center, so they are pretty wide. The brakes have a fair amount of play in wheel size available due to an elongated hole for the pads. I realized that you'll need to take off one side of the tape anyways because I removed one of the brake lines when I took off my rear brake and just left the housing under it so the bars would feel even. You could just try them out some time to see if they work, if not then no biggie;

I also keep seeing this FUJI with shimano sora STI stuff on it. There was also this carbon forked Oryx floating around somewhere.
My bike just needs a rear derailleur which i'm getting on Monday. Then I can ride it OOH YEA.
