I'm looking for good all around road bike I'll be using for daily commuting and occasional light touring. Currently I have a Trek XO, 2001 frame w/ 2002 components. It's generally been a reliable machine, but the geometry is a little uncomfortable for longer rides (long top tube). Besides, after two years, it's time to add a new bike to my stable.

I've looked at both Jake the Snake and Propad, and both seem like decent choices for what I'm looking for. Both seem to have a similar component set-up, the major difference seems to be the frame. JTS has an easton ultra-light frame, while the Propad's is Reyonlds steel. Now, it's the classic trade off; aluminum is lighter and stiffer, while steel tends to be more comfortable. The Propad isn't all that heavy, so maybe it's not that big a deal.

Does anyone have input/suggestion? I've haven't narrowed my choices to these bikes, so I'm open to consider others. I don't want to spend more than about $1300 USD. My dream machine would be an Airborne Carpe Diem - touring set up, but I just can't justify spending $2500 on a bike. Any suggestions are appreciated...

:)

Definitely consider looking at the Surly Cross Check.

The Broady Romax is in the same neighborhood, but might be a bargain for you pricewise.
